PV98: Historical Herpes

Welcome to PV98, with your host Chi_The_Cynic...

This competition is about history, and things which shouldn't be in it... your task is to modify any of the following pictures by including cultural anachronisms or completely irrelevant items/people in what would otherwise be accurate records of days gone by. Please stick to using the ones below ('cos I'm a cynic, and if you use other photos or pictures I might think you didn't make them yourself...)

Multiple entries are strongly encouraged.

Judging will be a week from today (provided enough people have entered by then)

So, in the words of the Dance Commander...Let's get this party started!

Hey. What's up with that last one, Chi? Looks like it was already done... is that Jerry Garcia back there?

Yeah, that's just before they canceled the show at Yaltamount.

Ok, I'm a fool and didn't realise the Yalta picture had already been (badly) edited so please use this one instead:

First, for the non-rules-compliant one:

And now... on with the show:

then...

kinda subtle.

(I had already edited it even though it was already edited and before Chi uploaded the new one)

...another subtle one...

...and not so subtle...

Okay, I see the thing in the subtle one (between the two monks), but what the hell is it?

Not an entry. From an earlier contest. Not the same picture as above... but close.

Real entry later.

umfum: Isn't it obvious? :) It's a shoebox. Wait, no. It's a speaker. Er, it's the eye of HAL 9000.

No, actually, in all seriousness, it is a transistor radio.

RW: Ok, I give up. What did you do to the MLK picture?

And, uh... this:

HA! I see what Weasle did with MLK. That's pretty good.

Fuzzy's "too subtle?" was what I thought had been done earlier until I saw the "transistor radio."

I'm going to have to get on the ball. IE kept shutting down on me last night before uploading the pics and I couldn't save them.

I can see what you've done to the MLK photo, RW - it's wonderfully subtle ;-)

It was KCF who couldn't see it... ooh, it feels just like those days when magic eye was popular (except I was the squinting cynic who could never see what all the fuss was about and was adamant that all magic eye pictures were a case of the Emperor's New Clothes...)

I see an additional dark splot, but I can't make it out.

Oops, wrong Chi. :P

Hint for dark spot: 28

Ah.

Well, with a hint from the master of the contest, I now get it.

Is there such a thing as too subtle? Or am I just too obtuse?

KCF

Judgement...

First off, thank you for all your entries - this was a much more successful PV than my last one (but then the last one did hinge on the Tory party, so what can I expect?)

Honourable mentions go to:

Rabid for his very subtle MLK picture (if any of you are still wondering, the black spot in the crowd is none other than Kaddar's "28" character)

KungChiFu for his less-than-subtle inclusion of a tourist behind the Chinese mandarins

fuzzyman for his "Tobor at the signing of the Declaration" (TOBOR NOT LIKE ENGLISH RULE!)

However, the prize, honour and glory of hosting PV99 goes to...

KungChiFu for the combination of "Gabe slain in 1066" and "KFC: sponsored by Hitler", both of which had me laughing out loud (particularly the latter)

Congratulations!
