I thought it would be cool to have a thread where people post websites of local bands they know or bands that are good but not well known.
I want you to hear this band from outside my town. They are called Caffiene and they are awesome. Except they like Avril. Anyway, here is their site and here are three of their mp3s that fucking rule. You must listen to them.

Your turn...

I belonged to The The's.

I used to play the Triangle. Then we all overdosed on heroin. It was a fun two hours.

here's a little-known band from CA. don't know if anyone's heard of 'em or not. :D

seriously, though, a great band I've been listening to alot lately is Tito & Tarantula, you'd have to be a fan of From Dusk Til' Dawn & Desperado to know them.

I have a band called Skatology. We're a death-metal/skat band. It's like:

DUM DUDDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUD DUM

and then our singer Mark goes:
Skiddly bop doo bop bop day-um day! Ooodoo!

we rock. we have a song called "Androgony of the President's Daughter" and "The N Word is Nordstroms" and "Cocks."

the aforementioned unamed band is my band. we are awesome. we're kind of grunge-ish, i guess, even though we play at all the hip "punk rawk shows". our best songs are Organ Grinder, Pulling out my Stitches, and Bungee Bob. we're working on a small, independantly released album called Frog with the Golden Leg. buy it!

The Disco Biscuits (preferrably a live album) are an up-and-coming "jam" band (though "jam" doesn't mean much anymore) that is influencing the way electronic music and rock are merging in a concert setting. I'd also recommend Keller Williams, a great 10-string guitarist that plays with loop machines and can just play a mean, percussive, fast, kottke-esque guitar while singing pretty country/bluegrass-ish melodies with some good hooks.

And of course: Medeski, Martin, and Wood. They're pretty famous in the jazz world, but I think they appeal to anyone who likes a good groove.

The Disco Biscuits

Keller Williams

MMW

Just the first three pretty unknown-yet-amazing bands/mans that came into my head.

You probably haven't heard of the grand majority of these bands, and most of 'em are pretty damn good (see especially Groovy Little Numbers, Bob, Dentists, Razorcuts, and Talulah Gosh). Unfortunate thing is: Most of 'em broke up at least 10 years ago.

Also good are Accrington Stanley (not the footy club) and most of the bands on Matinee Records (especially The Pines, Harper Lee, and Sportique).

I love hunting down incredibly obscure bands in that constant search for that incredible rush a great pop song can bring.

I'm including some tracks from some of the local Omaha bands on my swap CD.

A lot of bands that are making it big are coming out of Omaha NE. It would be kind of cool if one of the relatively unknown bands I see from time to time in the bar I go to after work were on MTV one day.

Pff! A girl I went out with for a bit plays cello for Mogwai when they play live (or at least she did when I knew her). Stuart Braithwaite does a very passable DJ set as well. He's less of a c*nt than I was expecting.

I think we're talking about bands that only maybe you and the lead singer have heard of. Although thanks for bringing the mighty 'Gwai to the attention of the forum - they rock.

I find humour in how you recommended mogwai to us.

Go find an old music thread that has something along the lines of "The 10 songs you listened to most this summer".

More than half of us have at least 1 mogwai song listed.

Oh god, someone pointed me to this site the other day, and I've been eternally grateful:

Etree's audio archive

It's a database of live shows from various bands. There are too many awesome ones on there to mention, but you'll need SHN and/or FLAC codecs for Winamp to listen to the songs, and some kind of program to convert the files to .wav if you want to burn them to a disc. Necessary codecs and programs can be found by searching around on that site, or going here and looking around.

The files are huge (up to 1.6-7 gigs for 1 show), but they're lossless recording, and you can just burn the shows to discs, then delete the source files from your computer. Lots of different musical styles on there, but there is a focus on bands that like to jam... because those are the bands that want people to hear their live show for free. Most shows are recorded by tapers who trade shows, usually through a microphone setup (but be on the lookout for soundboard shows; they're great sounding) and give the feel of a concert pretty well. Bands trip thinks you should give a listen on there:
Disco Biscuits, Keller Williams, String Cheese Incident, DJ Logic (awesome awesome awesome live show), Sound Tribe Sector 9, Yonder Mountain String Band, Rusted Root (not great jammers, though), Addison Groove Project, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Derek Trucks Band (Duane Allman's successor-- probably a better guitar player, too).

Ok, there is a lot of stuff on there that is worth listening to.
