In this contest, we'll pay homage to one of the artists who has so generously allowed us to use his characters in our comics -- by ripping him off. (Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?)

Back in 1999, Goats ran a five-issue miniseries entitled "Toothgnip's Believe It or Bite Me!", at least partly a parody of "Ripley's Believe It or Not!" Here are links to the strips:

http://www.goats.com/archive/990715.html
http://www.goats.com/archive/990716.html

And here's an episode I wrote back in February:

http://www.stripcreator.com/view.php?ID=3682

Your task is to write yet another episode of this series. To wit:

1. Toothgnip (any pose) must appear in your comic at least once.

2. Toothgnip must reveal at least one interesting piece of trivia (true or false) in the comic.

Those are the only two elements I think you really have to have in order to make the strip consistent with the series -- everything else (including the running "your mom" joke) is optional. As long as you get those things in there, your strip is legal. Beyond that, you can keep in the spirit of the series, or branch off and do your own thing -- whatever lets you write the funniest strip.

As usual, all are welcome to join, especially newbies and lurkers. Multiple entries are permitted (encouraged, even), but multiple crappy entries are inadvisable. Photoshopped entries are right out -- only unadulterated Strip Creator work, please.

The deadline for submission is 10:00 PM EDT on Sunday, August 26th. A winner will be named within a few hours of that time. To that lucky contestant will fall the task of creating, organizing, and judging the next Comic Contest.

Good luck to all. Now let's see some comedy.

i suppose i should apologize now, as it would be rampantly silly to post another reply just to apologize, so... umm, sorry.

A weak first effort, but I plan to have a think and make a better one by Sunday...

Speaking of dodgy art, I only just noticed how odd Gabe's visible hand looks... oh, and Toothgnip's stool has transparent legs.

You wound me, good sir!

If I had a barstool with transparent legs, I would put wheels on the bottom of those legs, and ride it around everywhere. Then people would think I was flying about on the seat of a stool. That would be cool.

Hey, I say it was high time you did.

Actually, if stool were to have legs, regardless of their transparancy, that should be a warning sign to the person from which the stool came that something is very very wrong.

So close, and yet so far from winning the Pokemon contest. Well, anyway...

This one might be funny. I'm not sure.

oh yeah... it wasn't so much "bragging" as "i'll reveal any amount of personal information to win a contest." i guess i've been playing too much tony hawk with my fiancee--the competitive edge is seeping through.

huh huh. i said "seeping." (:

A solid bunch of quality comics, if you ask me, which, since I'm running the contest, I guess you did. Thanks to all who participated.

Kaufman, your late entry was accepted, but it still didn't win. ;)

A very close Honorable Mention goes to habnem for C.C. LVI: AMAZING!! -- even though there are certain things I just don't need to know about my fellow strippers -- I very much enjoyed the humor of the first two panels.

But the winner this time around is itsclark for CC 56: Amazing Goat Sex -- I mean FACTS! It was, as they say, elegant in its simplicity. It made creative use of backgrounds and snuck the "your mom" joke in just when I was expecting we wouldn't see it at all. And, most importantly, it made me laugh the hardest.

Congratulations, itsclark. It's your show now.

This brings to mind another theory that's been posited...

That most people win Comic Contests early in their stripping careers, and then suffer a long dry spell before another win. I know you can attest to this, evil_d, and it's been 10 contests since my first win (and 20 contests since I started entering). Any other annecdotal offerings?

This bodes ill. I've not won, and I've been making strips since March. But I've only entered three contests, and I'd say zero out of three ain't bad.

It's true. I came here around CC 10 or so, I won CC 12, and then I won ...CC 36, I think, but that's all. There are some exceptions, like people who have won two or three pretty much in a row, but they're rare.

That made not the least shred of sense. You win. Unfortunately, since the sequence of Comic Contests has already continued, this new development splits the timeline (and misnumbering your entry only complicated matters), so you will have to hold your CC57 in the fifth dimension.
