Does anyone know how to contact DexX these days? I tried his optusprime email address but it's apparently gone. My wife and I are considering a trip to Australia/New Zealand and I'd really like to assrape him while I'm there.

Here's me. *wave*

Two thirds of the symbiotic entity Skabby Firefly tracked me down and assaulted me with jam donuts until I was stuck in place and could not flee.

They then told me that the Great Floating Head wished to see me. I was not displeased, as I consider the Great Floating Head to be a friend, having soiled his sheets on several nights consecutively. Several years ago I used his Great Floating Headquarters as a base camp while scouting out the American capital for invasion.

Due to a poorly timed groin injury, the invasion was postponed, but that's another story.

Those who wish to email me may do so on GMail, at which my address is my first and last name separated by a dot-type-thingummy.

If you can't remember how to spell "dominguez" then that's just too bad for you.

PS. My wife still enjoys calculus.

If anyone sees the other third of my entity, could they tell it to come home, all is forgiven.

By the way, nice to see you again DexX. Popping your head in now and then won't kill you.

Except now Australia has to suffer through six more weeks of winter.

Oh, there you are. We're not sure if we're doing (heh heh) Australia or Europe in 2006. We'll probably do the other in 2007. In short, you probably don't need to start hiding pointy objects and laminating the furniture too soon.

One thing I wanted to ask now, for planning purposes, is this: what part of year is best for touring Oz?

Depends where you're going. If you plan to do the tropics, as tourists seem to like to do despite the occasional crocodile death, you'll want to come over here in the US spring-summer, Oz autumn-winter, as the weather is milder and drier. If you're planning to stay around civilisation, I'd recommend spring or autumn - the weather in most of the capitals is a tad unstable but mostly pretty good, and you won't have to worry about miserable winter weather or killer summer heat.

It's settled - we'll be there in spring-summer-autumn-winter.

How about transportation? Is it better to fly around or are there good trains?

Our itinerary will probably include Sydney, Melbourne, the Great Barrier Reef, maybe a taste of the Outback, and ? in New Zealand. Any recommendations?

If you're going a long way in Oz, you fly or (if you're really adventurous) you drive yourself. The problem is that we have a land mass the size of continental USA with roughly 8% the population, and we mostly huddle along the edges. The middle is extremely pretty, but hardly anyone lives there and the climate isn't the friendliest. If you're well-prepared and have a reliable vehicle, the self-drive is very worthwhile. If you're in any kind of a hurry, fly.

We have some trains, but nothing like the US rail network. Pretty much just the major cities and towns are linked, and you can spend days on a train if you're going a fair way.

As for things to see... well, Melbourne is worth seeing for culture, Sydney is good for partying, and Brisbane has nice weather. No point in Adelaide unless you're planning to stalk Ben Folds. I've heard Perth is great, but it's a FUCKING long way away. If you want to see the reef you have to go way up north - Cairns, Mackay, Townsville, somewhere like that. I can vouch for Cairns, as we had our honeymoon there and it's a really nice town.

As for the Outback, most people like to do Alice Springs and Uluru (Ayers Rock), though they are quite a long way apart, about four hours drive, I believe. You could also go right up north to Darwin and see Arnhem Land and the wetlands up there. Apparently very cool.

The Tourism Australia website will probably have some useful info for you.

Ben Folds AND The Powerpuff Girls? Sign me up for the great SC vacation 2006 (if I survive chicka's wedding).

I think pita's a DexX addict. Better book her in to see a DexX therapist.
