But seriously though, I'm just kidding, well done guys, you got as far as Brazil and Argentina.

It just infuriates me that you can't be happy that you got to the quarter finals instead of being depressed that once again you won sweet FA.

Geddit? FA? omfg har!

I thought it was hilarious because at first it looked like Rooney kicked that dude in the balls. I know this because they played it on Sportscenter 40 fucking times. And Ronaldhino is gonna commit suicide because his team lost to France. FRANCE!!! THEY CAN'T WIN AT ANYTHING!!!

yeah if france made it to the final, half their team would surrender to the germans, and the other half would do nothing until the 80th minute before letting the Americans and the British to take over and win the game for them.

That's probably the greatest thing I've ever heard... Today.

Who cares? It's just a bunch of guys in shorts kicking a ball around. It barely even qualifies as a sport.

A couple of the games this time round have been poor adverts for the beautiful game. Switzerland vs Ukraine is possibly the biggest stinkfest I've ever had the misfortune to witness. I fell asleep, woke up and to my horror the match was still going! Switzerland couldn't hit the back of the net after 2 hours of play and even PENALTIES!

funny thing is, a great game looks SO MUCH like a crappy game that most of the human race can't really tell the difference.

It's certainly not the adrenalin-pumping, excite-fest that is baseball.

it's agreed then

what's funny is i used to love soccer as a kid. i played in a league for years. used to name my soccerballs and take them to school to play at recess. it's gotta be the world's most popular game for a reason, but i don't get it anymore. maybe because of the cultural lack of exposure to it, or there's no rivalry since there's nothing to defend because we're not supposed to be good at soccer so who cares if we lose, unlike baseball which we think of as 'america's game'. or maybe its just a personal thing because i don't like hockey either and its a similar kind of field game. whatever the reason like many americans i find myself asking why people like soccer in the same way i ask why claudia shiffer likes david copperfield or why sailors like ivy

The first time I played soccer, it was during some after-school program when I was about seven. Youth soccer was just starting to take off (early/mid 70's). It was a hot, humid midwestern day and we were playing on the blacktop. After a lot of running around and no goal scoring, I developed the opinion that soccer was a conspiracy created by adults to exhaust children.

I was unaware curling involved a ball or kicking... or shorts.

Although they were no oil paintings.

I'm still hoping the Olympics goes back to its roots so we can see all the contestants naked. Then I'll be religiously watching.
