Yeah, that was kind of the point. That's why I was afraid a lot of people wouldn't find it funny. I mostly grew up in towns like this, and the peopple are really like that - they go about life so wrapped up in their boring small-town lives, and that's all that matters to them. Tiny changes make them crazy, but big things, real-world issues, don't bother them in the least.
In any case, I guess this isn't so much a comic series, as a satire of rural life.
