/comics/Hari_Nezumi/442566/

vs

/comics/anthony15/460267/

Just so nobody thinks anthony15 is actually worth noting or anything.

Should we report this kind of stuff to Brad, or on the forums, or what? Not sure what the etiquette is, here.

Nice detective work.

We've never banned anyone for plagiarism.  It happens from time-to-time.  Usually, we just shame people into leaving.  I sent young anthony a love letter saying he should do so.

I remember when I ran across a comic about why Family Circus was only one panel posted years before I showed up. I was mortified and added it to my comic set. I guess I must have seen it at some point and forgotten it.

Plagerism happens.

Sure, comics get made that are similar to old ones. But copying a strip character for character and word for word? That isn't accidental.

Not something I'd worry about too much.  Comic thieves have no confidence.  They'll just wither away

You need to edit an older comic to succeed with your trickery!

This honestly isn't the first time this has happened. Allow me to bring your attention to

http://www.stripcreator.com/comics/m15/

My sneaking suspicion is that these are just regulars being trolls, which I would be able to understand if just copying my comics and pretending they were original was in any way humorous. I guess it's a commentary on how my comics suck? If so, I bow to whomever it was' superior comedy prowess that has obviously extended far beyond my own.

Scariest thing about m15 is that he named the character I used to use to portray myself ("Geek" from Kaddar) using my actual name. A character I'm pretty sure he kils off a couple comics in.

Huh.

How long do I have to keep making comics before I get my own private stalker?

I guess it could be regulars messing around. There've been trolls in the past that have been the brainchild of long-timers, but they've for the most part been over the top and funny in their own way, haven't they? I dunno. I just don't see any humour in copying comics word for word. But then again, I don't see the point of copying the comics of an active user if they're trying to get away with it, either.

Maybe the ultimate joke is screwing with my logic circuits.

Also, your comment in m15's profile is winner.

For what it's worth, I assume that most people who plagiarize on this site (whether they're copying other SC comics, or something they've seen on TV, or whatever) aren't malicious, nor looking to get praised for something they didn't do.  They probably just want to try out the site without bothering to come up with original material.  Or they're mimicking something they already know is funny, which, after all, is what all comedians do, just not so blatantly.  It probably doesn't occur to them that anybody might care about having comics they post here plagiarized.  I'm not saying it's okay.  I'm just saying don't automatically assume the worst.

I've just come across a user. He's apparently partially imitated my profile statistics and has also (I don't know if this counts as plagiarism) "copied" one of my comics. Only the first panel though, so I'm not sure if he's plagiarising. But take a look at this:

/comics/Aviator125/467831/

Compared to MY comic (the original):

/comics/Beeko180/461181/

Also with the profile statistics, his reads:

quote:

this, taken from aviator125's profile, wrote:

I make
0-20 comics each day
0-140 comics each day
It takes 0-6 minutes to make 1 comic

While mine (again, the original) reads:

quote:

my profile wrote:

At most I make:
0-80 Comics Per Day
0-560 Comics Per Week
And it takes me about 0-6 minutes to make a Comic

Furthermore  he claims to have made 20 comics in a day yet, he has only made five comics all up:

That's strange.  Usually when a copycat shows up he choose to copy one of the funny strippers.

Ouch. That was painful to read, and it wasn't even directed at me.

I didn't find it very insulting. When he mentions me not being a funny stripper, he's most likely refferring to his opinions on what his type of funny is. It was an insult, who cares. The only thing that matters is the fact that I don't have to worry about it.
