I'm taking a bit of a risk, the Mystery cup is nigh on end, as is the tag team cup. I requested the return of this, and now am hoping it will work under my supervision. This time there are nine rules (to prevent a draw if only two people take part) The first comic follow the rules, the second breaks all of them. Your job is to guess the rules. Any questions then ask.

This is going to crash and burn isn't it?

And dcomposed, if you axutally want to compete you have to guess the rules, not make a comic.

Hmm let me guess...

  • Use Narration in the first frame only
  • Mention a basketball player (sportsman?)
  • Spell someone's name wrong
  • One of the frames must rhyme
  • Only use Forum Regulars characters
  • Name every character who appears
  • Use (at least?) two different backgrounds.
  • Not be funny

Rule #1: You must spell a famous person's name wrong.

Rule #2: You may not use the words Hi, how, fine, yourself, been, better, sucky, five or dollah.

Rule #3: One character's dialog must include a synonym for happy.

Not necessarily. Two comics just plain aren't enough datapoints yet to figure out what's going on.

    • Use some form of the words "shoe", "warp", and possibly "talk".
    • Use the "wall" background exactly once.
    • The title must be one word long.

It was the wall2 background, and didn't have to be once, just turned out that way, three rules left, can still have a three way tie.

  • The title must have five letters?
  • The title must not feature in the comic?
  • There must be no reference to anything before the 70's?

At the mo, it is only you lot that can now win (NM can make it a three way tie) If you want I could add more rules to these remaining two to drag it on a bit and get rid of what may become a horrible decider. The rest of you can still guess, you may get 2 points and take bronze. And if you get those points and I decide to drag it on then you would be back in with a chance.

And like I suspected it was pretty dominated. Well done Kramer you take the gld with 5, evil_d takes silver with 3 and NM takes bronze (and last) with one.

Kramer you can either make the 8th one, change the rules somehow (I would suggest this) or forget that this ever happened and leave this is a box for someone else to uncover.

That was mildly fun well done Kramer!

Well done Kramer, I wouldn't mind there being another, mainly so I can join it from the start. Though there could be rule changes, because it seems to easy just for everyone to give up. Though maybe that's because they don't like Baz, maybe if Kramer made one more people would participate?

Yeah, I might run one, maybe next week or so. The previous ones looked fun, so hopefully I can recapture some of that. The way the old ones were done, the people would post comics that they thought conformed to the rules, rather than just state the rules. That would probably be more fun. Plus the hosts of the previous ones made an effort to make their strips funny.

Congratulations, kramer. I wouldn't mind participating in another one, and I think the idea of having participants post compliant comics is good.

Bazilla, thanks for reviving the format, and good job hosting it. And your strips weren't terrible -- I actually thought Broken was quite funny.

I was just reading up on the old contests, and I think I'll follow the system of No 6- where Gabe allowed both comic entries and people stating rules outright.

I recommend everyone reads that contest. There are some amazing strips from Dr K there.

Yeah, that thread seems to have vanished.

But you can check Gabe's and my comics 'round the third week of June for the gory details of what was involved.

One thing that I really got a kick out of from that contest was when Gabe posted clues to each of his 10 rules -- in the form of URLs. Of course, it was up to folks to figure out the relationship between the web pages and the rules (some were more straightforward than others). Best of all, the list of URLs didn't include this one.

That sounds like Rules Contest 4.

Which was followed by my ill-fated Rules Contest 5, which was followed, as far as I can tell, by a long pause, and then this, the misnumbered Rules Contest 7.

Unless there was a whole contest that I somehow managed to miss entirely. That's what I'm trying to figure out.
