i want to participate in the next ComicCupCompeticion..

so.. yep.

I don't really understand how they're organized, so how can such a FlamingNewbie get into the act?

You could try waiting for the next one to start.

this seems too obvious to actually work. i demand another, more obscure, piece of advice.

right. i'd completely forgotten that i'd already said that i wanted into the NEXT one. so. obviously i have some understanding of the game, in that i knew that i couldn't join an already-existing CC.

so.. oh, damn. i forgot what i was saying.

Basicly... keep an eye on the current one. Wait for it to end. The signups for the next one will either be in that forum, or whoever is running it will post a "Comic Cup 9: Sign Up Here!" thread.

First come, first served, generally.

Read CC94.
Or the Badly Translated Using BabelFish Contest.
Or Your Best Comic Cup.
Or The Stupid Tobor competiton.
Then SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP.

at the same time, hear the advice of LadyJ, who just said this today...

quote:
Well, see... there were never real ironclad rules about the starting of contests... the whole contest thing grew out of the ingenuity of some bold regulars. However, tradition evolved.

The part about it becoming chaotic is the main reason why the tradition is that the winner makes the new contest... but occasionally, a regular will come up with a new contest idea, and it will work well. This is because the regulars have been here long enough to know what will go over and what won't, and have enough emotional energy invested in the site not to fuck it up with needless spooge.

These are the reasons that newbies and relative newbies are not encouraged to start contests. Capiche?

You know, sometimes we could just answer the question rather than beating the guy up. It wasn't thrilling to see a whole new thread started the question, but... come on, guys.

Maybe there needs to be a section in the FAQ about the contests. Does Brad write everything in them or does he take submissions? I'd be happy to scribble something.

Newbies don't read FAQs. In Bug Reports and Suggestions, I suggested a "read this first" thread in each forum (or perhaps on the main forums page?). So far it's been shot down by one person and parodied by another.

Actually, on the main forums page is a better idea.

Or maybe a newcomers forum where they can get their questions answered.

Except that the kind of newcomers who would utilize a newcomers forum are the same ones who would read the FAQ. The kind we're trying to reach are the ones who need bells and whistles and stars and a smack upside the head.

The Comic Competitions forum is sacred ground in my mind, you can photoshop in the Fights forum, post comics in General Discussions, even fight in System Notices, but the CC's are what the forums are all about, you fuck them up, you fuck the site up.

I find it a little hard to believe that NNW decided NOW to start a new thread without even reading any of the recent ones, including the Babelcrap nonsense.

NNW is either trying to get a cheap laugh, or is a complete freakin' moron.

I'm sorry, but it's true.

A normal newbie, fair enough, but since there's a whole thread with this EXACT conversation already posted in it, there's no excuse.

Im firmly of the opinion that all newbies should be shot in the face before theyre allowed into a CC of any description.

This may seem harsh , but it would have prevented Xpac and Fuck from ever entering , so it seems like a good rule to me.

I dont get it. WS says

" all newbies should be shot in the face before theyre allowed into a CC of any description"

which means that K_vs_K wouldn't have been able to steal that CC from us years ago.
I wasnt flaming or grouping him with noobs now, but thats what it was like then.

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!!

What is the fucking problem with you Bazilla????

Wirthling_Sucks claimed that no newbies (like xpac or fuck) should be allowed to enter contests as they ruin them...

right?

Then 'Nate said "don't forget about kramer_vs_kramer" who, as we are REPEATEDLY reminded, won a Comic Contest with his first ever post!

right?

So what 'Nate was saying was, that if we didn't allow newbies to enter contests, we would have missed out on the "phenomenon" that it k_vs_k.

Then you said "and me!", which means nothing, as you haven't thus far proved yourself as any real worth around here.

get it?

*end thread*
