Since I can't use photoshop, I'll never enter or win a contest here. But I just had to share these pics with ya'll. these are all from my cross-country trip last week. Mitchell, SD is the main source of this hilarity (can't remember where the gas station pic was taken)

The joke here is obvious. It's the skill that matters:

Here's a detail. yes, all the mosaics are made of corncobs:

A lesson in perspective; Is the Happy Chef merely a leering figure in John Travolta's disco suit and pose?

Or is he about to smash this building with his spoon?

No comment:

there are a couple of other corn palace and happy chefs here and here
if you need additional/alternate images.

I've got a lot of relatives in Wyoming and as such have made numerous trips through that area of the country. I know that at one point I had a lucky rabbit's foot purchased at none other than the Corn Palace of Mitchell, SD.

It is! have you been? Inside they have photos of every corn palace since the 1920's or 30's...they change the mosaics every year. And it's free.

I wonder if you can get married there. like a Las Vegas thing, except the reverend dresses like Tobor instead of Elvis....

I've never been, but I kind of want to now. If I ever get my film developed I have pictures of a really crazy looking bowling alley in Montreal.

Are the mosaics painted or coated with something? Having all that corn out in the open would be a sure way to attract billions of birds.

It seems that nobody else is going to do this one, so here it is...

In case you are wondering: Yes, I have made a 3D model of Tobor. I am learning a new package, and he was begging to be done. I didn't get the rotation exactly right for this edit, but it turned out all right, I suppose.

Beautiful! surprised you didn't change SD to SC, tho..and Welcome back!

and to answer Brad's question, they do shellac the corn. birds get at it anyway, which may be part of the reasoning for remaking the mosaics every year.

I thought of this AAAAAAAGES ago, and finally got around to doing it...

Oops, forgot the blood on the sword... oh well, too late now.
