I came up with a bunch of ideas when I got the notion to use a road sign for the last photoshopping contest, so I'm thinking this might be a subject with a lot of possibilities. For this contest, either alter a photo of an existing road sign (street signs, historical markers, warning signs, highway signs, etc.) or create your own from scratch.

Judging will be done Monday night at midnightish (Stripcreator time).

These are pretty small, and a lot of them are only used in Australia, but there are some good ones:

Just reading through these is giving me more ideas than I can use. :)

You know, this page just shows you a bunch of pictures of signs, but they never bother telling you what the signs mean. Fortunately, I'm so smart I don't need to be told.

"Caution: Mr. T ahead"

"Please keep your bus within the green circle"

"Warning: Kidnappers ahead"

"Get out and walk, jackass"

"Don't forget how to add"

"Watch out for secret spy cars that will attack you with their wheel-mounted rock launchers"

"Swerve wildly"

"Turtle-spearing zone, next 500 meters"

"Begin driving drunk"

Bless you.

"Recycle"

I almost want to give this contest to evil_d since his contribution was the funniest, but I suppose I should pick an actual photoshopped image to win a photoshopping contest.

There are several worthy contenders, but I have decided to go with this one...

It's absurd, well done, and easily the most creative entry.

Take it away, boorite...

Like I said, there were many worthy contenders. I had it down to one of Fuzzyman's, one of DexX's, and boorite's and finally decided to award boorite's because it was less obvious than the others. Being "not obvious" is not necessarily a criterion I would use regularly, but that was how I was feeling last night...

Kaufman made me do it!

Skagg - DCCVCT is DexX's Comic Contest Victory Conditions Theorem, which states that an author's confidence of their strip (or, in this case, image) winning a contest is inversely proportional to its actual chance of winning. Hence, if you think you will win, you won't, and you will only win if you are sure you won't. One addendum I have made regards multiple entries - if you sumbit multiple entries, and one of them wins, it will be the one you thought was the weakest.

You just used a logical fallacy, known as denying the antecedent. I stated that you can only win if you are sure you won't, which in proper logical form is: IF (you are sure you will win) THEN (you will not win), which can be transformed via modus ponens (denying the consequent) into IF NOT (you will not win) THEN NOT (you are sure you can win). That last bit in regular English is: If you win, then were were not sure you would.

In an IF...THEN proposition, you cannot assume that, because the antecent (the IF bit) is false (denying the antecedent), then the consequent (the THEN bit) is also false. Think about this: IF it is sunny THEN my clothes will dry. Let's say it is not sunny, and you throw your damp clothes in the tumble dryer. The antecedent is false, but the consequent is true, yet the proposition itself is still true - had it been sunny, you would have put your clothes out and they would have dried.

In the same way, looking at the proposition IF (you are sure you will win) THEN (you will not win) and deny the antecedent (I am NOT sure I will win) then the consequent is not necessarily going to be false as a result.

That probably made no sense, but my critical thinking skills have been going rusty, and I needed an excuse to exercise them.

We are also talking about "necessary" vs. "sufficient" conditions. Being sure you won't win is a necessary condition to winning, but it is not sufficient to ensure your winning.

I've only ever won two contests, a CC and a Photoshop one, both times I was very confident that I had it "in the bag".

However, the last couple of CC's I've entered, and Comic Cup's I've competed in, I've been quite confident and have been repeatedly shot in the face, with cum (not bullets).

To be honest, I don't see the point in entering a contest unless you're confident you're going to win.

This applies for me as well, except for one notable exception -- The Comic Cup. For some reason, when I enter a Cup my competitive instict hits high gear and I just knowwhen I have a winner. The notable exception being against Wirthling in the last final, when I thought I had a 50/50 chance and got stomped.

Yup. I fudged it a bit earlier, but the proper form for modus tollens is as follows:

P1. IF x THEN y
P2. ~y
therefore
C. ~x

Note, I fucked up on the terminology (told you I was rusty). Modus ponens is confirming the antecedent, ie:

P1. IF x THEN y
P2. x
therefore
C. y

Transforming IF x THEN y into IF ~y THEN ~x is something else entirely... urm... standard logical syllogism, I think...

I really need to get back into some logic. I hate losing knowledge through disuse.
