I wanted to do something for this contest that was related to Hitchhiker's Guide. But, alas, any pics I could find were really dull.

So instead, I'm going to continue where Boorite left off, and ask you to do some more modifications of old advertisements. I figure this is fair, since I go kind of crazy during any advertising-related contest. Since this is my contest, you won't have to put up with me submitting twenty entries, for once.

This time, the theme is... TOYS.

Go to Adflip and search for ads using the keyword "toys." You should find about 65 ads. There's some mighty fine raw material there.

Extra points for anyone with the patience to modify all of dialogue in one of those comic book style ads. Though, of course, actual hilarity and quality of editing are also factors.

Feel free to combine elements from different ads to create new and interesting toys.

Let the playtime BEGIN!

I did come across adflip.com when I was searching images for the previous contest but I passed it by because the page wouldn't load. It's doing the same thing to me now but I did manage to see a few before it conked out. Now, I just need some inspiration...

I tried to think of a way to think of a way to make this more disturbing. I failed.

I don't know if this one can be improved, either. It features a "snowstorm tablets" ad, which encourages kids to turn a cigarette into a toy that makes a huge mess (I'm pretty sure that one's straight out of SNL's Mainway Toys collection). One could also get itching powder or sneezing powder for the young terrorist in training.

Hopefully my bandwidth will hold up (or I overcome my laziness and find a non-Geocities web host).

If that picture does go down, I've got another copy that Gabe was nice enough to host.

The sad thing is, I remember having that blue Nomad from the Smash-Up-Derby when I was a kid.

It's judgement time.

For a while there it seemed like boorite was going to win by default with some pretty excellent entries ("Shooting at Dad" being the best of the bunch, I think).

Itsclark came up with something really good for The Phantom Strikes. I had considered using that ad for the previous contest and couldn't think of a damned thing. You must be hanging out with Kajun.

I liked Dan's novelty ad a lot, but I think I went blind reading it.

But the prize goes to billings and his Instant Replay. Damn. Check out the unit on that guy.

Well deserved... I completely lost it right around "I think a spring just pierced me retina".
I also thought Dan's was a classic, though.

That is a great game... I burned through it in 4 days and ruined much of the experiance though.

Try out some of the cheat codes and play the game's early stages with those force powers. Just hit

~
helpusobi 1 (enables cheats)
give force (gives force duh)
setforceall 3 (again duh)
sabercolor "x" (whatever color saber you want :-])

Meh... playing games with cheat codes is a waste of money, in my opinion. Friend of mine bought Star Craft when it first game out and smashed through it in a day using cheat codes. I can't understand why he would waste his money like that...

no no no... I should clarify.

I beat the game in 4 days without cheats, went back and played areas of it again, and then played the early levels and parts with the codes so that I had the other color sabers and force lightning 3, grip 3, etc.

IMHO its dishonorable to play a game through with cheats unles you've already beaten it.

Cheats like "Next Level" cheats do suck. However fun cheats, such as that "Choose lightsaber colo(u)r" one are fine and harmless.

I prefer cheats like 'chickengun' that gives you a big pistol that shoots chickens.

Since I'm generally a horribly bad player, I get the codes before I get the game.
