One afternoon, DJ took his brainiac little sister Annabelle to the library....
DJ, I have a question.
Shoot, Annabelle!
How come some solutes will dissolve in the solvent but some don't?
Well, if the particles in the solute get attracted to the particles in the solvent, then they will dissolve! If that happens then the substance is said to be soluble.
Looks like oil's well ends well!
So if the particles don't attract then they don't dissolve? And the substance is said to be insoluble?
You got it, Annabelle! No wonder you're a brainiac!

So if the particles don't attract and repel each other then they don't dissolve? And the substance is said to be insoluble?
You got it, Annabelle! No wonder you're a brainiac!

You got it! Take water and oil. They are an insoluble solution because the particles don't attract so the oil won't dissolve in the water.

WOW!
But if you add an emulsifier like soap it will grab onto the water and oil particles joining together so they can't separate!
So that's why you can get oil off your hands if you mix your hands with water and soap!
You got it, Annabelle!
Looks like oil's well that ends well!
Guess we should get going!
Yup!
