as an aardvark, i'm on a fairly limited income, so i have to watch my expenses. my law practice failed, my daytrading failed, my real estate deals barely break even, it's a good thing i still have
the oil well shares my grandfather left. so for about a year i've been buying instant coffee at the local store for $4/lb, about 2 cents a cup.
i'm able to forage for almost everything but coffee. i'd almost run out so i went for more last night, and they no longer stock it. the next cheapest is $12/lb.
luckily i only drink 10 or 20 cups a day.
i'm about to go drink the last one, and then i have some decaf, and some drip type, and then i'll panic and buy the more expensive stuff.
time to go move in with rich boyfriend.

regular readers of this strip - as tho there were any- would recall i spent the last year angsting over a memo that in the end never got written.
um, a comic should go here. any day now. this is just a placeholder, because i have another comic to do first.
ok, that's done. today i need to crank out an opposition to a motion to dismiss.
won that case anyway. now, i have some work to do to catch up on cases that just sat around while the other one was more important.
it's been so long since i've gotten any real legal work done, i almost forget how, and the whole writer's block thing isn't helping.
i'm a lawyer, but i stopped taking new cases 5 years ago due to emotional problems. i have a few odds and ends to wrap up before i can get out of town.
so anyway last night i went to the state fair. fried foods, ponies, saw the lt. governor auction off a steer, $12,500.
rode a not very good bike there, one i wasn't worried about getting stolen, so i was worn out when i got back.

i'm still all psyched that grammy bought me donor status. plus that latest video she dcc'd me was pretty cool. but sometimes i'm embarrassed when my "comics" take up space there,
on the donor comics page, when it's just me talking to myself in an attempt at autopsychoarttherapy.
i have a headache. probably caffiene withdrawal. and stress from that hearing thursday i'm not ready for. jeebus, how long does it take advil to kick in? no help yet.
there was a time, in the golden age, where the donors section was full of regular entries by a "stable" of consistently funny stripcreatorcreators.
you can still find those guys posting in the forums.
my big accomplishment for this wasted day was maybe lined up a hot dog cart job for the female roommate. but i'm vegan. sigh.
now it's a little bit me, a little bit zimri, and 90% randomcomicguy.

it's a motion to dismiss because i havent done anything on the case since 2001. uh, i've been busy.
it's actually me, arbi. i have to wear lawyer drag today because i have a hearing.
i'm totally unprepared, with nothing written, so i'll probably lose the hearing. but i know the judge really well, and i might have a shot.
been nervous about it-literally worried sick for a few days, couldn't sleep last night. it's now 6 am and light out, so i made it through the almost falling asleep at 5 am stage.
courtroom 12 doesn't look like this. it's a community justice center on the south side, looks like a dentist's office. i stayed awake by reading ivy's walmart strips.
i stopped by on friday. it took them 20 minutes to find the file, and then they closed for the day.
i don't know yet if the hearing is at 9 or 2. i'll call at 8 to check. UPDATE: it was at 9. I lost.
maybe i'll bang out a few motions while i'm here, print them off at the library as i ride my bike to court.

i lost an important case today. in some ways it's a relief, it's been a hassle for 5 years now and maybe it's over.
so i went out to the club to blow off some steam. forgot it was thursday, drag night, but later there were a couple cute boy dancers and i had an ok time, drank one over my limit.
i got caught in the rain on my bike so i stopped in another club and listened to dannon sing. what, meatloaf again? i cried - that used to be my emotional release, go to kareoke, get drunk, cry.
the song ended, the rain stopped, i rode home, said hello to the roaches and got online.
so here i am again. expressing myself here is a bit odd, but a step up from those guys in the ghetto who just walk around talking to themselves
everybody wants to be heard. at least the judge seemed to listen before he tossed my case out on a technicality. i could refile it if i need to.

i got a bunch of small things done today, first time in days. bank, bus ticket $60, paid lawyer dues $105, looked up 2 case files, paid electric bill $160, bought coffee $5, updated blog, made comic.
met my new realtor, made a spare key for him, called my lawyer, looked up an incident report, adjusted my do not call status, hassled the AG's office, sent for unclaimed property forms, shaved,
yesterday's did list was like, took out trash, stomped on roaches, made webcomix
didn't write client letter, drop off pager, open scary IRS letter, pay gas bill, make better list, email mom and ex, block calls from stalker, but those weren't on today's list.
i plan to reward myself tonight with a trip to the club, even though i've been going a bit too often. *$20. three drinks, 6 lap dances, home by 2 am. miles ridden 11.
still a few projects i could start before that. make list for tomorrow, bath. or, as it gets dark, i could waste time watching the aristocrats trailer. for a long time i had no idea what that was.
