the firefox as popup blocker tip was from www.wilwheaton.net - he's "just a geek"
 | | |
| So i've installed firefox on my new p2 and have no more pop-up problem. the p2 was $100, $106 with tax, which might be a little high but was convenient. | |

 | | |
| firefox is fine, but openoffice so far is a pain in the neck - the p2 didn't have word installed, which is unusual. i don't have a tech guy handy to see if i can move word or wordperfect from box1. | |

the transition to open source is underway, but not there yet.
 | | |
| generally i'm all in favor of the move to cheap boxes with open source standards. but i'm still using win98; so far i haven't seen an open source front end for linux with ease of use and easy install. | |

| open source systems that you have to be a geek to use aren't the answer. i need something a 5 year old can use. | |
 | | |
next step: plug in webcam.
 | | |
| i eventually got a speaker plugged in and was able to listen to wil's audioblog - turns out he's only had one new one in 6 months. | |

 | | |
| a $106 p2 is like the "new" car, a $500 1990 plymouth sundance (sunbird? sunfish? if it's a sundance, we can name it butch.) | |
