Hello! My name is Dasha. Through my school years, I've met many people and been jealous of many of them. During my 6th grade year, I learned a valuable life lesson.
This my ex-best friend Masha. During my 6th grade year, I adored her. I thought she had the perfect life and I wanted to be just like her.
I'm Masha. I liked to dance and sing. I think I'm the best 6th grade girl.
Thinking back on our friendship. I don't know why I ever became friends with her. She didn't like me at all.
Ugh Dasha. She's kind of annoying, don't you think?

Dasha and Masha met in the beginning of 6th grade. They were good friends, but Dasha was always jealous of Masha
What did you get on the Math test? I got a 4.
A 4? That's too low for me, a 5 as always.
Dasha kept despising herself for being worse than Masha.
Oh no. Am I really that stupid? I wish I was like Masha.
Masha kept getting all the attention from teachers.. That upset Dasha because she was working so hard, but didn't get rewarded for anything.
Great Job Masha! Your project was the best as always.
Thank you Mr. Benson!

One day, Dasha witnessed something horrible. Something that made her realize that Masha's life was a lot harder than she thought.
Oh my gosh.
Poor Masha...
She witnessed Masha's mom getting verbally abused by Masha's dad.
You idiotic b*tch! You can't clean or cook! Why did I ever marry you! My life would be better if I had never met you!
Why do you hate me so much?
Masha had been putting on a brave face. Homework was her escape route from home problems.
Mom? Dad? Can you be a little quieter? My Russian project is due tomorrow.

All the teachers knew about Masha's problems at home. They supported her because they knew that an 11 year old growing up without stability at home, will not be able to make it through her school life
But I thought she had the perfect life.
It's normal to hear parents fight every night. They will get through this anyways. My dance class and my homework will help me forget about this.
In 2018, Dasha thought about this situation again. She realized a lot.
I wish I knew back then that I had nothing to be jealous of.
I may not have had the perfect grades or attention from all the teachers but at least, I had a stable home. I started succeding in school later, and that happened because of the support of my family.

I later found out that Masha dropped out of school after 9th grade. She couldn't take the pressure that she put on herself. It was too hard for her to manage school and her unstable family situation.
School is too much for me. I'm dropping out and running away.
I was jealous of a girl's life who had actually lived a miserable life. Her family was a mess to the point where her whole life, she didn't have a stable family.
This situation taught me something very important. Do not judge a book by its cover and do not be jealous of others. You have to be more sucessful than yourself yesterday, than someone else today.
After this situation, I rarely ever admire someone else's lives anymore. Our lives all have flaws, trying to be better than someone else or not being happy for someone else's achievements, is bad.
The only way to grow as a person is to understand your flaws and try to be better next time.

I'm Masha. I like to dance and sing. I also love school, I think it is such a good community.
We were really close, but I always felt like a loser around her. She always got good grades and the teachers loved her!
If only she knew....
