The new stripcreator site design is up. It's nice and minimal and I'm reasonably pleased with it at the moment but I'm sure that will fade. Some notes about the new design:

1) There is currently no way to view a list of all of the comics. I will be adding this once I figure out a nice way to present it all. I've changed the navigation to being user based because I found it very unlikely people were using the arrows to page through the 30,000 comics in the database.

2) Personal comic pages (stripcreator.com/view.php?author=name) now display the latest comic by that user. A navigation pull-down and arrows are provided to look through their comics.

3) Profiles now have "homepage" and "display email" options in them. If you enter a homepage, a link will appear under your name on your personal comic page. If you have "display email" checked, it will display a link to your email address. This defaults to off, so you'll have to turn it on if you want such a thing.

4) I'm implementing a favorites list so that you can link to other comics if you'd like. I may get to that tonight, I may not.

5) As per someone's request, you can now log out.

6) Voting and scoring is another issue entirely and I'll be dealing with that soon.

I think there's more, but I've forgotten. If you notice any issues, please let me know. Thank you.

Brad.

I like most of it. The overall aesthetic is very nice. Not too sure about the comic list being a drop-down menu. Part of the problem is it doesn't look like there's any way at all that scores are reflected, which must lead one to wonder why one can vote, which will certainly lead one to post questions in the forums that make us want to hurt one.

The drop down was an effort to deal nicely with the fact that some people have two comics and others have hundreds. And once you display the latest comic by that user, it eats up a fair amount of space.

And I'm currently thinking of giving each user a "stats page" of sorts where they can get an overview of what's going on with their comics. And right now I'm entertaining the idea of the scoring being star-based. So you'd just see how well your comics did in relation to your other comics.

I'm still mulling the math behind scoring, as well as trying to learn regex (and failing).

Can you make it so that a comic of my choice is what is displayed on my page, rather than the most recent one?

Hmm, not sure how tricky that would be. I'll put that on the list of things to look into after I finish forcing all these forums into one user system.

Much as I like pretty much all the changes, I noticed two new problems: I can no longer change my signature, and logging out doesn't work anymore, both on the board and the Stripcreator.

The signature thing is weird, but I'll be replacing the profile editing page tonight or tomorrow, so it'll get fixed then.

I'm not sure why the logging out isn't working. Try going here:

http://www.stripcreator.com/logout_test.php

That should clear your cookie out, which might be the problem. Then try logging in and logging out again and let me know if that fixes the problem. Thanks.

Nope, didn't fix a thing.

Strange, it works just fine here. Did it work before I switched the site over?

Could you possibly e-mail me your stripcreator cookie from your WINDOWS/COOKIES directory? That might shed some light on the situation.

This didn't work for me either. But it worked before, yes.

And I can't mail you that sort of thing, because I use public computers, which is the reason being able to log out is useful for me. Gah.

Is there a way to change the default characters and backgrounds when creating a new strip. (So if you use recurring characters you don't have to keep getting rid of the frightening asian girls)

I don't know, seeing those Asian girls is always some pretty strong motivation to get started on the strip. Does wonders for my writer's block.

I trust you haven't dealt with this yet -- my sig seems etched in stone, and the check-boxes in my profile are also with minds of their own.

Interesting. I haven't looked into the checkbox insanity yet, but the sig editing should work just fine. I'll take a stab at this now.
