I wonder if anyone else on this forum is enough of a horror fan that the title of this thread seemed to be missing the name "Bedelia"...

"Where's my cake, Bedelia? It's Father's Day and I want my cake!"

The great Creepshow, made by a kind of holy horror trinity. Written by Stephen King, directed by George Romero, and with gore and makeup by Tom Savini.

The dialogue in question is from a spontaneously reanimated corpse of a nasty old man, killed by his daughter on Father's Day. He climbs out of his grave saying, "Where's my cake, Bedelia? It's Father's Day, Bedelia, and I want my cake!"

Creepshow was made in the mid-eighties, and tried to recapture the spirit of the EC horror comics of several decades past. It is a lot of fun. :)

I remember the show. Isn't that the one where they had guest directors submit stuff?

Nah, that was Tales from the Crypt (or perhaps Tales from the Dark Side, from the decade before).

Creepshow was a feature film with five short stories.

That's the first thing I thought of, too, probably because I just happened to watch Creepshow for the dozenth time last weekend. It's a classic. I especially like the part with Ted Danson and Leslie Nielsen (can't remember the title - Is it "If you can hold your breath..."?) and "The Crate."

Speaking of which, does anyone know how to get blood out of a birthday cake?

Give its phone number to the Red Cross. They'll hassle it so often about giving blood, it will eventually cave in and do so.

I adore Creepshow, not least of which because King is my favourite author, Romero is one of my favourite directors, and Savini is the unapproachable GOD of movie grue, but mainly because it is such a lot of fun.

Let's see... as I recall it opens with Father's Day, goes on to Something to Tide You Over (the Nielsen/Danson one), The Lonely Death of Jordy Verrill (based on King's hard-to-find short story Weeds), then the sublime The Crate (I read the short story of this recently - the movie version is almost word-for-word identical), and finishes up with They Creep Up On You (the one for people who hate cockroaches *grin*).

Avoid the sequel if you can. Only three stories, so they are longer and really drawn out, and everything - scripts, acting, effects - are inferior to the original's.

It's been too long. Time for a rewatch, I think.
