Yes, I know that they were horribly racist opinions and I wasn't a fan of those comics, but he didn't do anything to anyone and never even posted in the forums once. Oh well.

Racism is only funny if you look at it. I mean, how ridiculous is the concept? Personally, the words cracker, honkee, nigger, spic, kike, dago, wop, guinea, chink, gook, Pork Chop, mick, paddy, shanty Irish, coon, fishbelly, graymeat, etc. don't bother me. Because I choose not to let them bother me. Words only have as much power as you give them. Ignore them (or ignore the person that uses them) and they'll have no more meaning. Dave Chappelle is a great example of helping to shatter racism. Crackers!

Words have power when you associate them directly with the innumerable hardships certain groups have suffered. While I too distance myself from the words, I can't help but understand when some people can't do it as easily as us, Mikey. As much as I want to say anti-semitic jokes are funny because they show the ignorance of the joke teller, I can't help but feel a slight hurt when I think about how that particular ignorance has led to indescribable pain for my family and my ancestors.

Free speech is free speech, but ignorant, stubborn racism is about as useless as a bucket full of dead monkeys.

This is true. Which is why movies like Blazing Saddles (thanks for the reminder, smamurai!) did so much towards the easing of racial tensions. Written by a black guy and a Jew, it broke a lot of comedy rules, one of which was to stay away from the race issue.

Schlong didn't con people into reading his comics with false links or anything. The clichÃ© was true - no one was making you read his comics. If they offended you, it's very easy to click the back button on your browser.
