Or: Proposition Edit Posts 1.

Kajun has inspired me. I have another petition. I think we should all be able to edit our own posts. It's a bit tiresome to have to quote and fix, and we'd save a lot of time. Anyone agree?

Sure, I agree that donors should be able to edit their forum posts. Totally. Tons of other forums give their users the ability to do this, but I am not sure what it would cost brad to do this.

While I haven't spoken to Brad personally on this issue, I have stimated that allowing donors to edit their post would cost Brad somewhere in the neighborhood of 78 thousand dollars a year. When I briefly hosted a forum that discussed the life and times of Don Knotts, it was the inclusion of post editing that led to its eventual demise.

I thought it was the lengthy, detailed discussion of Don Knotts' BMs that proved the demise of the forum.

That and a lack of people looking to discuss Don Knotts. But, the cost of post editing was the final nail in the coffin, in my eyes at least.

:O

$78,000!? That's insane. Why is it you can do it at forums that are run by, say, my friends, who are mostly dirt poor, for free? Why does it cost money here?

I wish I had known! I mean, who wouldn't want to discuss Don Knotts for the rest of their lives? Mr. Furley? Barney Fife? I mean, we're talking the kind of guy golden, glistening, moist statues should be put up in town squares of while giggling geisha girls toss sushi rolls at onlookers and dance in a circle around it while the onlookers WORSHIP AT ITS FEET!

Posts are final, if you haven't managed to recognise your posting error in the "preview" page, you're too much of a moron to be given the time of day.

Look at the Contest forums, if you could just go in and change your votes as you pleased it would plunge the whole idea of voting into chaos. If you have an opinion and even after previewing it you are still in agreement with it, why not let it be saved forever?

If it's just a case of spelling mistakes or what-not, why should we accomodate morons? If you're that stupid, fuck off, please.

Jesus, Kajun, I meant like if you make a typo or something. Maybe it wouldn't have to be used in the contest forum since that's basically cheating. But let's say you're just chatting with someone and you write, "I jsut wish we could edit our posts." I would like it to say just, because I don't want to look like a fucking moron. Is that too difficult to comprehend? Or let's say you're posting a comic number from memory in RMDC and you fuck up and put a comic that you didn't want to put there. Why shouldn't you be able to go back and change the number? I guess because of the high expense this will never happen, but hey, I can dream.

I just want to be able to edit other users' signatures.

Seriously, nobody's going to think you're a moron just because you make the occasional typo.

I like the fact that posts can't be edited. I would hope it makes people think a little longer before they submit a post. And I worry about the confusion or deception that could be caused by someone changing their posts after others have read and responded to them. In fact, I still think we shouldn't be able to edit comics. Deleting works just as well and eliminates that possibility for confusion.

hahaha, there is no expense when adding a feature such as an Edit feature to the message board. It's just some code that needs to be added.

I would like to be able to edit my comics if anything, because i have made alot of typo's and sometimes used totally different words than i meant to.

I just read this thread for the first time....again. I didn't know I had already replied to this last night when I was quite innebriated and overly harsh in my opinion. Which I guess is hilariously ironic as I was ranting about anyone who posted something they weren't 100% sure they wanted to say and calling them "fucking morons".

Still, my opinion stands, I think it would be a bad idea, there are plenty of mods you can contact if you want a post you regret deleted that much. But editing posts would just end up being insane, these threads run like conversations, looks at the FGH forum, if you could just keep editing your posts every time someone pointed out a flaw in your argument it'd...uh.....cause brain cancer or something less bad.

Edit features almost always get abused. Common example, one guy says "Do you think pedophilia is awesome?" and everyone says "No you sick fuck" or whatever, and the first guy changes his post to say "Do you think we should put a stop to pedophila?" so as to give the impression of having served, owned, and burned the general populace of the board.

(Of course this being Stripcreator, everyone would have replied with yes in the first place, but that just makes the serve even more of a serve.)

Then everyone has to change their answer to comply, and then the first guy changes, and it gets so repetitive that you'll think you were arguing with MaKK. Or even worse, someone changes a "Do you like boinky?" thread into a "I'm planning on flooding the forums and hacking into accounts, do you want to join in?" and everyone who likes boinky gets banned or some stupid shit like that.

Of course Brad could ban people who do this kind of shit, but it seems like to much work just to fix typoos that nobodu realy notics.

What if when you edited a post it said "this post has been edited by **** on 1-03-04" like on other boards. That way if anyone abused the feature we would know it and we could ostrich-size them.

Whoops! Ha ha ha! What a typo! What I actually meant to write was "The quality of mercy is not strained"

Never mind, I wrote this quick post, clarified things and everyone understood what I meant, without using any edit facility that is prone to abuse.

Do you see?

I suggested that you create a proposition CS thread for this, so you know my vote is Hell Yeah, bitches! Also, I'm going to have to add a rider to Prop CS that crabby receives head from each and every mod on a weekly basis. You mods can work out the schedule amongst yourselves.

Im not 100% sure, but on the BB boards your able to edit your post but only if someone hasnt posted after you and if it's inside some time limit, like 10 minutes, that should be enough to see a typo and change it??

I'd vote yes for EP1 if there was rules like the BB boards, but if we were able to edit them as many times we like and whenever me want, the i'd vote No.

But then again thats why the "Preview" button is there, to stop typo's.
