I mentioned this in the Mary Kay Letourneau thread and I alluded to it in the McGreevey thread...don't have affairs with people you have power/authority over. This is called "quid pro quo sexual harassment."

Letourneau had sex with one of her students, McGreevey had sex with one of his employees. While legally, Letourneau's victim can't say it was consentual, McGreevey's ex-lover is in a perfect position to say that he acquiesced to McGreevey's advances because it was his boss and he feared for his job. I know what you all are thinking, but that's the argument he's making and whether it happened or not, the taxpayers of NJ are going to shell out some coin to make him go away.

Right now, I'm holding my breath because I know of a gay relationship where I work between a supervisor and employee, and we elected to non-renew the employee's contract. Now, we made that decision before we found out about the secret relationship and it appears that the two women have remained close, but we're at least vulnerable to a potential claim if things go sour or if she can't find work elsewhere and decides to see if she can soak us for a few thousand on the theory that the supervisor made us do it or that we discriminated against her because she's a lesbian.

So, for those of you out there in supervisory capacities...there are plenty of people out there who don't work for you. Please go fuck them instead.

And -never- get caught boning the purchasing manager on the Xerox machine by her husband who also happens to be the sales V.P for the Eastern US.

Or so I hear.

Whoa. Sounds like you've got a potentially volatile situation there, choad. But I can't see how her being discriminated against for being a lesbian would fly if her supervisor is also a lesbian. Unless the supervisor had no input on the contract-renewal decision, that is.

Were they hot at least? ;)

And I bet they totally made out in public all the time! And let guys watch them go at it! Cause lesbians are so HOTTTT!

The supervisor actually had no say in the non-renewal of the contract--the potential discrimination issue would be, hypothetically, "you found out i was a lesbian so you non-renewed my contract."

the other theory would be, "the only reason i went out with her was because she was my supervisor and she said she could get me a full-time contract," or, "i told my supervisor the relationship was over, so she had my contract non-renewed."

Of course, none of that happened in this case, but people who lose their jobs tend to look at their former employers with suspicion or find lawyers who can create a scary argument guaranteed to run up the attorney fees on both sides.

I never knew the employee; I work closely with the supervisor, and she is a lipstick lesbian. She also has the most piercing eyes I've ever seen.

I have to admit, I enjoy taking advantage of my power of my army of flying monkey minions.

Well, I would if I had an army of flying monkey minions.

That would be cool.

Well, a bitch to clean up after.

And kind of smelly when you get right down to it.

Still, it would be cool to be able to order my flying monkey minions to fly to 7-11 and get me a Twix and a Diet Pepsi.

Except flying monkeys aren't all that smart, so I supposed they'd screw up and bring back a Peanut Butter Twix and a Pepsi Edge.

And they probably wouldn't count their change. Or they'd spend it on banana slurplees.

And when I ask for the change back they'd claim to be all innocent and not good with numbers but you can smell the banana on their breath and you know their lying.

Fucking flying monkeys.

Damn, choad. I'm coming to live in California. Anywhere in California.

Also, I am pretty versed in current sexual harassment laws, mostly because I was involved in a bit of a sexual harassment situation at my job. I was sexually harassed by my female Regional Manager, not me sexually harassing anyone, you cynical fucks.

They handled it pretty strangely. They fired her almost immediately, but I received no compensation, apology, or even an offer of counseling. According to state law I am entitled to a few different options. This all went down early this year. I also know she'd been for sexual harassment sensitivity training, which is now mandated.

I guess I'm lucky, though, because who wants their name as a straight male dragged through the news as being a victim of sexual harassment by a female supervisor?

I don't know about NY law, so I can't comment on state-specific remedies. My one-paragraph assessment would be, "harassment reported, swiftly investigated, harassment confirmed, disciplinary action taken--the system works," because this is basically how it should transpire.

Companies get a little dodgy when it comes to handling the victim. The problem is they have a confidential disciplinary process they have to uphold (even if everybody knows she got fired) and they have to avoid admitting wrongdoing to fend off one or more lawsuits from the victims. When a company does what it should (i.e., informs employees that sexual harassment is forbidded, creates a system for reporting harassment, investigates all reports, and takes appropriate disciplinary action) then I don't see anything wrong with going to the victim and saying, "Hey, you were right...thanks for telling us so we could handle this." But if you remove any of those steps, then the company is vulnerable for creating an environment that would allow sexual harassment to take place. My organization tends to follow the right pattern, so I've been able to express appreciation to people who have reported this type of behavior because I'd rather identify a problem employee and correct the behavior while it is still manageable than have to deal with a long line of claimants and their attorneys.

That your company previously did not inform employees about its policy on sexual harassment is probably their achilles heel. The other weakness may be their disciplinary policy and they may be fighting a wrongful termination or constructive discharge claim for what they did to the manager. If male managers did the same thing and kept their jobs, they may be scrambling behind the scenes to do damage control and reign in previously rogue managers.

They asked me a couple of questions, but I was never told that it would be handled, I was never told whether or not my story was even believed, they simply went to the Regional manager's office and canned her. There were many, many things that she did besides sexual harassment to lead to her termination, believe me.

No, I also had a statement signed by both my manager and my maintenance supervisor, who were actually present during the harassment and WITNESSED it. So it was not as if it was my word against hers. Plus, I wrote down every instance where she would call the property and ask what I was doing over the weekend and I'd tell her I was going to PA to see my girlfriend and she'd say something like, "Someone's gonna get laid this weekend, huh?" I'm talking like, almost cliche sexual harassment shit. Wrote time, dates, everything. Well-documented on my part. And I actually work in Connecticut, which is where it happened. I received no communication from the company after they questioned myself and my coworkers over the phone.

A guy at work got canned (and then some) for filming women secretly at the nearby mall.

He actually wasn't officially fired immediately, but considering our building is 75% women, it's not like anyone wanted him around.

It's not clear whether the film was for his own consumption or if he was selling it.

I'm sure they burned him when he went back for the camera. What an idiot. You need a good power source and a wireless setup. Record the action offsite. Never, ever go back for the camera. Amateurs!

You bring me so many places. So many places that I thought only existed in dreams. And yet I have exercised restraint. "Look but don't touch." That is the axiom I learned from my dear mother as she whipped me with a coat hanger. That lesson is still with me today, which is why you should search your living quarters for anything resembling a camera.
