I've only been here for a year, but I haven't seen a long standing thread on music. I mean, if politics gets its own thread, well, i say music deserves one.

First off, very vague topic: Best band ever??

P.S. I'm back, college isn't as hard as I thought

Oingo Boingo?

Well, the genius behind (and fronting it) is Danny Elfman, who has done the scores for various movies and T.V. shows. One of the shows is The Simpsons, and he did BeetleJuice, Nightmare Before Christmas, Men in Black 2, and a lot of other pretty cool scores.

Areallystupidguy and I are probably the two biggest Oingo Boingo fans on this site. I loved them, and living in So. Cal offered plenty of opportunities to see them live--I even saw their second-to-last show back in 1995. Taken collectively, their live shows were the most fun I've ever had at any concert.

I would have liked to have seen Oingo Boingo, especially if their concerts are a great time.

I saw Beck at the HORDE Festival many moons ago, and although I am not really a Beck fan, the guy can put on one hell of a show.

But the best time I've ever had at a concert, surprisingly, was at Depeche Mode down in Madison Square Garden Arena the first time I saw them. Every single person in that place was dancing, just completely wrapped up in the music. No self-consciousness was obvious, and people didn't seem to want to judge each other, either.

Unfortunately, I saw them again at MSG on the tour of their last album, and it pretty much blew.

I wouldn't consider Outkast to be crunk music but if you do, I also reccomend Goodie Mob and also all of Cee-Lo's solo work.

Panties are panties my friend! Nothing quite like experienced TANG! while there husband is at work at some construction site. Sometimes when they work really late into the night the sad house wife will cook you dinner. Then when he gets shipped out of town you can sleep in his bed and jizz on his pillow. Then while your posing as the babysitter and you get invited to family bbq's you get a real rush from shaking his hand knowing he slept in your cum. It's a power trip that only Air Supply can provide.

An old band I was in used to do a 354 MPH Buzzcocks-y version of "Kind of a Drag." And it was. A drag, that is. ;)

Anybody on this site who knows me even vaguely knows I can ramble on about music for days and days and days. So it might not be a good idea to get me started.

Current choice for best band ever: The Field Mice.

My favorite band would be Blind Guardian. As for top ten? Hrm...

10. The Ramones
9. Death
8. Johnny Cash
7. Any orchestra doing Beethoven!
6. Black Sabbath
5. Nevermore
4. Iron Maiden
3. Therion
2. Queen
1. Blind Guardian

Honorable mentions: NoFX, Judas Priest, Iced Earth, Willie Nelson, Stravinski, The Doors, Type-O-Negative, TMBG.

I mostly picked these bands/artists because they were influential, original, and/or very progressive and never stagnated. I also like them all. I'd have put the Beatles up there, but I never really cared for them much, and Led Zepplin has never interested me much. Jimi Hendrix was great, but I don't really listen to hum much anymore. Pink Floyd was very diverse and influential, but again, not one of my favorites.

Top 10 Songs?

10. Johnny Cash - Delia
9. Dimmu Borgir - Progenies of the Great Apocalypse
8. Darkthrone - Transylvanian Hunger
7. Type-O-Negative - Christian Woman
6. Testament - Dog Faced Gods (MAYBE Hail Mary)
5. Beethoven - 9th Symphony
4. Iron Maiden - 2 Minutes to Midnight
3. Nevermore - Dreaming Neon Black
2. Manowar - Brothers of Metal
1. Toss up, Blind Guardian's "Nightfall" and Demons & Wizards' "Fiddler on the Green"

There ya go.

Hi, I'm Casey Kasem and welcome to Unknown Eric's Top Ten countdown. We're going to skip the long distance dedication this week and go right to the meat of the chart. Top Ten singers, bring us in...

"NUMBER TEN!"
At number ten is R.E.M., from their nearly flawless 1992 album Automatic for the People, here's "Find The River."

Number nine is occupied by Northern California math-pop group The Loud Family with the track "Give In World."

In at number eight is A Tribe Called Quest with their number "Scenario," which also features cameos from Leaders of the New School.

Coming in at number seven, a surprise entry from fairly obscure twee-poppers The Snowbirds. The song is titled "Motorcycle Baby."

Number six is held by Minneapolis rockers The Replacements and their song "Little Mascara."

We're half-way through the countdown, and coming in at number five is Kate Bush, with her 1985 classic "Running Up That Hill."

At number four is a punk-pop classic and one of John Peel's all time faves as well. It's the Undertones, with their hit "Teenage Kicks."

Number three is an exciting little ditty by British group Trembling Blue Stars entitled "The Ghost of An Unkissed Kiss."

Coming in at number two is the Bob Dylan classic "To Ramona" from 1964's Another Side of Bob Dylan LP. Which brings us to the top.

(drum roll)
And Unknown Eric's Number One song is... "The Girl With The Strawberry Hair" by Talulah Gosh.

Thanks for listening. Until next time, keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.

As far as I can tell, that's true. Although I did want to spank him for leaving in a huff way back when. But I think I wanted to do that before he left.

Anyway, this is a free society (well, maybe not at the moment, but it was), you can have a veritable harem of men!

Why not have yourself a nice variety? You've got the seasoned, experienced, take-no-prisoners veteran and a young, naive, eager, enthusiastic charmer.

I know him well enough to be certain he'll put his foot in your butt if there is any semblance of homosexual advance toward him. The man is unequivocally straight. He reeks of testosterone. And phermones. Lots of phermones. Not a trace of estrogen. He da man.

Well, someone who reacts that way to homosexuality is usually labelled a homophobe. And in fact, studies have also suggested that homophobia is nothing more than an internal repression of one's own homosexuality.

I think hate in general is based on what you dislike about yourself, projected onto the people who represent it.

You don't have to be a homophobe to be averse to homosexual advances (or any unwanted advances, for that matter), or to be proudly, unrepentently straight. I gag at the thought of having sex with a man, but it doesn't mean I'm denying some latent bi-curious tendencies, nor does it indicate any aversion to homosexuals as individuals. It just means that, sexually, I'm not into guys.

So if I hate beets, it's because I'm not in touch with my inner borsht freak? Because I'd sooner eat a dead rat than a beet, but only because, to me, they taste like urine soaked llama shit.

Pita said I'm really masculine, and you know what? I am. I think that's okay, though, ya know? I got conned into dressing in drag for Halloween, years ago, because... you know.. it's a cheap costume and it's always good for a laugh. I got TONS of laughs that year. You know why? I look like a football player in a dress. I have no feminine features whatsoever. None. I ooze manly man stuff. It's just my biology.

It's not that I don't have emotions or feelings or that I'm insensitive or any of that shit. I'm not anti-gay. I mean, for what? Who CARES what you do amongst consenting adults? I sure as hell don't. I just don't want to touch other guys wee wees. Okay? And I'd rather they didn't touch mine. That's at least as okay as being gay, or straight, or a Hispanic, lesbian beet farmer.

The last couple of generations of Jungen, in this country, have had incessant smoke blown up their impressionable, little asses about how anybody with white skin, testicles, and who likes to make bang bang with the opposite sex is an oppressive, insensitive poseur who likes to crush anything of beauty or sensitivity under their jackboot heel.

Attention: This is a crock of shit, largely created, I think, by a lot of bitter ex-wives with too much time on their hands. PC is just radical feminism with extra vitamins and a whole lot of filler.

Not everybody who doesn't decide to go out and suck off other guys for a bit or have the 'obligatory college lesbian experience' is a fucking Nazi or a priggish biatch.

Some people just... know what they like.

And that's....

... okay.

It is.

I can't buy the notion that I'm, somehow seething with homo lust because of some threadbare new wives tales.

Straight white guys laugh and cry and have feelings, too.

They're just not, you know... all Oprah about it.

And, hey... Crabby:

If got something to say, spit it out.

Don't, uh.. what was the phrase you used...

"...act real nice to your face and when you're not around tell everyone how much of an annoying paranoid freak you are and explain how you have no grasp of reality."

Just honk it out, son.

09 - "Shoo Be Doo Be Doo Be Doo Da Day" - Stevie Wonder

08 - "Killing Fields of Gray" (Scratch tracks)- Collaboratively produced single that's being created, tracked, and mixed over the internet, for which I am providing lead vocals.)

07 - "Swing Swing" - All American Rejects

06 - "The Asylum" - Song I'm getting a shot at mixing that's going to be on the sophomore CD release of a really good band from Cincinnati.

05 - "Buddy Holly" - Weezer

04 - "Night Vision" - Song I'm tracking for a CD I hope to release in Spring of 2005. It was written by a cat named Mark Addison, who is really talented and kind enough to allow me to release my version of the song with his permission.

03 - "I Don't Need No Doctor" - Humble Pie (Live)

02 - "Here Comes The Flood" - Peter Gabriel (Solo piano version)
