I think they're suspiciously similar.

I'm just saying, plagiarism isn't cool. In fact, as a writer, it's one of my biggest pet peeves.

But then again, why the fuck would anyone plagiarize me when everyone rates me so low?

In all seriousness, I ripped on another plagiarist, and got a negative comment for it. Then someone plagiarizes me, and I take offense at it, and then people get upset at me for it.

If someone here really wants to stand up and defend plagiarists and assholes, you're welcome to it.

Whatever.

Dude, that's unequivocally NOT plagiarism. They're barely remotely similar, at all. The idea itself is similar in a small way. The execution is totally different, and incidentally, they both suck.

This is TOTALLY coming across as a desperate bid for acceptance, I hope you realize that. Do you really think your jokes are that funny that someone would steal them?

It's official, you're an idiot.

Is that second comic a ripoff? I'd have to say a definite maybe. I haven't seen much use of two pairs of (clothed) feet to indicate the sex act before, and the facts that both couples express concerns about parents and both have first and third panel narration raise suspicion. It is conceivable that poster 2 looked on the sc home page for most recent comics, and liked yours.

I just checked your info. You've gotten ten votes rating you. Out of how many thousand users. Maybe some people like your stuff!

Reality time. This is an anarchistic humor site. People rip others' ideas off all the time. So bloody what? You're not getting paid. It isn't costing you anything. And if you make good comics, people will recognize you for that, regardless.

I like to think of stripcreator as a cooperative enterprise, where people who would like to be funny can build upon each other to make something better. Think of other strippers as teammates, not opponents.

For what it's worth, I have in my 3.5 years here done all of the following:

  • Taken an idea from someone else's comic and made it better.

  • Added to a series of comics started by someone else.

  • Ripped off someone's use of a given sc character to represent a particular character.

  • Given others ideas for comics for series they'd started that I didn't want to intrude on.

  • Parodied others' comics or series.

  • Had my comics copied letter for letter (sincerest form of flattery).

It happens. And luckily, this is a place where it doesn't (shouldn't) matter.

I'd agree that they both are very similar. On one hand, there's only some many jokes in the world so it's not beyond the realm of possibilities that you both had a really similar idea in the same day. On the other hand, there's five fingers...and the fact that #2 comic has the upside down feet for sexual simulation. While not revolutionary, still it's a specific choice.

My advice, Enderandrew, is make teh funny, assume you'll probably get ripped off by some hoser, and don't put that brilliant idea for the multi-million dollar screen play on here. But most of all, make teh funny and have a good time here.

(Dammit, I just saw Kaufman posted a similar thread right above this. Screw it, I'm posting mine anyway. next time I'll just rip off Kaufman's post.)

I didn't go ballistic. I didn't call the guy a bunch of names.

I didn't fall to me knees and shout "KHAAAAAN!"

I asked if other people thought it was a coincidence, or if there were similiarities.

We all take inspiration from stuff around us all the time. However, I think it's good form to give credit when you largely take an idea directly from someone else.

That's all I'm saying.
