Indeed, even the 90s are over. Not only that-- we're almost halfway through the aughts. The 70s are even more over than the 80s. And never mind the 60s.

Duran Duran is back on tour soon. Motley Crue, too. I sure wish the 80's would die some more.

Bands I hated in the 80s are somehow quintessential "80s bands." My mystification endures.

Well, boorite, look at it this way:

Things change so often and so fast. If a band sucked in the 80's, and hasn't done anything else but continue to suck, they've become reliable to people.

See?

But what about all the cool 80s music that is quintessentially 80s to me? All this 80s retrospectiveness tends to reduce the decade to kitsch, and it just ain't so, I tells ya. Important and cool stuff was going on in the 80s.

Then came grunge and the whole sensibility got nuked as far as the marketplace was concerned. And now we drag up the disposable junk from culture's landfill and call it 80s, as if to say, we are laughing at the 80s, look how cool we are. The substantial work is neither propagated nor built upon. It makes boorite sad.

The Canadian version of MTV (aka MuchMusic) just came out with 2 80's compilations... one of dance-ish hits from that point in time, and one of the more 'rock' ish music. My manager and I play them when we're working together and laugh at the stupidity. I also pointed out that some of the songs on those albums are older than I am.

I dated a girl once who, when you asked her what her favorite music was or what bands she liked, she'd say, "The 80s". That girl had to go.

There was one good thing about the eighties. It rhymes with "mateys", which always makes me think of pirates.

I dated a girl who was 80 once. The sex was a bit dry, as was her sense of humor, but she made up for it all by buying me an Escalade.

I'm insane enough to be currently listening to every CD/LP I own in alphabetical order by artist. In the Cs, I've been hitting a lot of actually good 80s music lately... (Elvis) Costello, (Marshall) Crenshaw, Crowded House...
