DexX is gone, he's the one who made all the forumusers. Anyone else wanna take up the candle?

A parody thereof would be okay. But this is a copyrighted character.

quote:
caveman
Shouldn't be too hard I don't think. Kaddar?

quote:
Doctor besides the scientist
I'd almost like to try my hand at this one. I think I will give it a vain attempt.

quote:
Nurse
I won't even try. I could never draw a female figure if my life depended on it.

quote:
Humphrey Bogart
I'm not sure if there would be issues regarding this one. It's possible though. After all, Brad Pitt is featured on here.

quote:
Barney Rubble?
Another copyrighted character. I can't see that one getting on here either.

One character I'd like to see on here is Jenny Everywhere. http://www.queergranny.com/jennyeverywhere/
I'm just into the idea of open source characters being passed around through multiple mediums.

I can't believe it took me this long to finally realize who "Tyler" is.

I would like to see more characters with different reactions and poses to choose from, like the "Blue" character.

I'd like to see Kaddar's newest character (that wide-eyed cute kid) seated at a desk and using a computer.

I have a Bogart-esque character that I made for a Flash game attempt in school last year. Might as well get some use out of it.

He was meant to be quasi-futuristic, hence the metal hand and fancy looking gun. I dunno, I still kind of like him. Although I am noticing his right arm needs some fixing up.

Found another, might not work that well considering how it is a from a front perspective (made it for a walk cycle.)

I should be able to pose this guy pretty easily as well.

That's all I have for old stuff I think.

Kaddar
March 2, 2005 4:38 PM

caveman
doctor
nurse

These are the suggested ones I'd be drawing if I do some more, any other good ones?

One thing I always wanted to do is to make like one entire catagory of just two characters, one male, one female, and have a ton of different poses for each, for people to use in series. There would be plenty of different reactions and costumes for both these characters. Basically, it'd be like a new "blue" and "blonde" but redrawn since he kinda has a dated look to him (compare him to my "kaddar" character)

Anyone like this idea? If not I'll just forget I said it.

I've been meaning to do something similar as well. Again, with Illustrator it'd just be a matter of moving objects and changes facial expression to get different poses. Wouldn't even be that hard to make new characters based on those as well.

Problem is I'm not a fan of making human characters.

I like the idea, since Blue, Maura, and the guy who hammers a nail into his head are about the only ones with more than two different poses or expressions.

Yes, actually. We need some movie monsters.

Dracula
Frankenstein
Wolfman

I kind of feel the other way. I like how all the characters here are roughly on equal footing, and you can pick out the ones that best fit the mood of what you're making. This proposal would bias that choice heavily, and turn this into more of a site for creation of *one* strip, not the whole array that we have now.

I like the multiple pose idea, but kaufman does bring up a good point.

Maybe it would be better if a few of the characters that are already here got an extra pose or two?
Just throwing the idea out there.

I'd like muppets. Not THE muppets but Muppet-esque characters (that way i can remake St Elmo's Fire using Elmo).

I'd also like a depressed looking kid.

Maybe a nurse.

I agree with mikey on the monsters too.

I think Kaddar could maybe do with cleaning up some of his existing characters before coming up with new ones. A few of them are quite rough looking.

I'd like to update older characters from the first kaddar set some time, especially blue and red... and ranger (maybe actually make him look like a ranger? ooh!)... It wouldn't be major, they'd basically just be redrawn to look less chunky. Anyone pissed off if I update old characters? (Compare afro or kaddar to blue)

Looking at the date modified on the original comics blue appeared in, the last time I drew him was 5 years ago.

Kaddar
March 3, 2005 5:41 PM

Like for example, I did this pretty quickly, but I think this is what I'd have blue looking like if I drew him now. Though I don't know if the noticible thickness change would make it very useful with current kaddar characters.

Order: (old), (png), (gif)

If brad were willing to impliment this so that the middle one works for IE as well as firefox: http://webfx.eae.net/dhtml/pngbehavior/pngbehavior.html you guys would be able to use the middle one and have it BLEND into the background of stripcreator backgrounds. Now that would be simply awesome. I could even make a transparent version of the ghost.

Edit: Nevermind, it's as optimized as it can get, because you can't have a 256 color image with an alpha channel. Hate to say it, but you're right, alpha channel characters would be a lot bigger file size.

Here's it with that black thickness removed from the outside, and as a png (smaller than gifs when you don't use alpha channels)

I actually use the same program, psp7 but I do it at 400% scale then resize it, before I used to do it at 100% scale. One thing I don't like about psp is the way the vectors' edges are flat. (Which is why, at 100%, my characters have faults) I really gotta get used to photoshop some day.

Here's what he looks like at 100% scale.

Welp, it's your guys's choice as to whether or not I work on a better looking version of my characters. Potentially, brad could just remove the old kaddar character's catagories and put in a new kaddarDX directory, meaning old comics would retain old characters (unless edited) and new comics would have new characters only.

I like the idea, and all of the suggestions for characters and poses so far. I also agree with biped about the look of the original blue, he looks kinda dopey, which I like and apart from having several poses, was one of the reasons I used him.

Personally I'd like to just see more characters or versions of characters added, without taking away the current ones. Changing the look slightly can change the way the character comes across, affecting the perceived personality of some characters- primarily in any ongoing series.

That said I know from experience that people will always complain about change, but give it a little time and people will accept it as the norm and would complain if it were changed back again...

And hey- they're your babies, I'm grateful to have the use of whatever you provide for us ^_^

I have no problem with replacing characters with updated versions, but...

I put effort into making sure my text balloons don't get so big as to make the background start to tile (unless I'm using a background where it doesn't matter). I care how my comics look. So I would request that the new versions of characters be no taller in pixels than the ones they replace.

New Blue looks good, btw.
