The next generation X-Box isn't coming out 'til Christmas... that's lame!

Oh yeah, and the Roma refugees in Germany are being deported back to Yugoslavia where thier homes have been destroyed or taken over by the majority Albanian population, and where they will be forced to salvage scrap for the most meager of existences.

But mainly, the next generation X-Box isn't coming out 'til Christmas! That's lame.

It's WICKED lame, but of course the power-corporation isn't going to let something out now that they can release around Xmas and make crazy money off of.

Now you know what to get me for Christmas, Zaster. :)

So far all they've really announced is that it will basically be able to play any Nintendo game by downloading them, this includes NES, SNES and N64. Plus the new ones and it is backwards compatible with Gamecube.

They still haven't said what the so-called 'revolution' about the console is yet.

And as for the one I'm most looking forward to, it's the PS3. Why? One word:

PS3 not only has great graphics but also a "Emotinal Chip Enhancer" or "ECE" that will aloow NPC's to react emotionally to every situation. you may find yourself in the middle of the greatest firefight of all time's, when suddently your team partner spouts : "what's it really all about? all the killing , the dying, the blood?" just before he stops a bullet with his skull. this techonology should come to a peak in such games as "Dance psiquiatrist revolution" and "Dont fear the Freud'"

Those guys at Epic are making the world a better place through the newest Unreal engine. It looks to kick ass (Gears of War). My only complaint is that Unreal Tournament is set back to 2006/2007. That's a long wait for the next installment. But at least it gives me time to upgrade my computer. I saw a lot on the E305 on G4, but I'm still left to wonder how much of it was actual gameplay screens and how much is pre-rendered stuff.

Another thing. You console gamers know no pain. You feel little in the way of slowdown or incompatability. PC gamers constantly have to worry about the latest game even running on their system. When Halo came out on X-Box, the X-Box gamers didn't even question how well it would run. They knew it would run just fine. When it came out for PC finally, some of us had to wonder if the game would even run. It did, for the most part. I'm just worried about the newest gaming systems upping the ante. PC gamers have always had the possibility of the best picture, sound and upgradability for their games, not to mention multiplayer has been strongly left up to PC gamers. Now the console wars have forced Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony to realize they need to do something about that. PC gamers still have the edge when it comes to how many people are playing at once, but console gamers have the cost-effective thing down pat.

HDTV is still not as good as a high-res match of Wolf, but it's getting there. Even at 640x480, console gamers have a good hand dealt to them, at least when they play games on big screen TVs. A 32" TV costs around $200 if you look around. A 32" monitor is nearly unheard of. The best we can usualy get is a 21" monitor for over $300.

No longer are the PC gamers elite. We are kinda screwed now. We had our time in the sun, and now, even I am considering getting my hands on a PS3 or X-Box 360.

What do we still have though? Mouse and keyboard controls OWN any game pad when it comes to FPS games. Potential for much higher resolution games. Modifications are made far more often for PC games. Multiplayer is rarely more than 16 players on consoles. It can go as high as 64 on PC (not including MMORPGs, which are frankly, the bane of the PC gamer). Finally, there's warez, but even console gamesr can go through a couple extra steps and play their favorite console games for free.

Let's face it. Console games are usually more fun, easier to get running (pop a disk in and you're ready to go), less likely to have problems, often look better (attributed to television blurring and lower resolution being squeezed for all its worth) and have a more social attitude. You don't usually invite friends over to play games on the PC while drinking beer and partying. There's rarely a PC set up in the living room for that sort of thing. Sure, we have LAN parties, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper to get four X-Boxes together and have a 16 player Halo match. I've done this, it's fun. More fun than getting 16 PC owners over and finding space for all 16 fucking boxes.

We no longer own online play. We no longer own FPS games (though we have better controls). We can't even say we own better looking games anymore. Doom 3 and Half Life 2 were our last chances. Now, we're just screwed.

Have fun with Gears of War guys. We saw this coming when Rockstar released GTA 3 on PS2 and not on PC until much later. We may never even see a GTA San Andreas for the PC.

X-Boxes vary in quality. It's because of the companies that make the hard-drive. I forget what those companies are, but some are higher quality than others. If you buy your X-Box from a Walmart as opposed to a game shop, it's more likely to crash on you.

I wish I could keep up with PC gaming frankly. I'm stuck at about UT2004 level at the moment, and not willing to spend $400 on a video card to play games that don't look that fun to me (see Doom 3 and Half Life 2). Far Cry looks pretty fun, but I'm still waiting for UT2007. When that comes out, maybe I will buy a badass new video card.

I don't even see why the 360 has to exist, the Xbox's capabilities aren't near being reached yet. They could squeeze so much more out of the Xbox graphically, but instead they're opting to screw over their old hardware for an all new setup. Are they going to do the same with the 360? Sure, it's a powerful machine, but what's the point if Microsoft doesn't even make use of most of it's ability? These people need to look at their hardware and make the most of what they got, instead of simply progressing for the sake of progress.

they're upgrading because:

1) Even a fully optimized X-box would look like Pink Donkey balls compared to the PS3.

check X-box Specs and PS3 Specs

2) It's a brand new excuse for charging 400 $ for something that cost 35$ to make and package.
3) to mantain a fine tradition in the console world of never ever ever releasing a tactical game.

Not to pick a fight with you Melkor, but most consoles released within the last 10 years have cost more to make than what their retail price is, at least during the first year or (two in some cases) of it's release. Sony, Nintendo, and MS are more than willing to post a loss on the console in hopes that they would profit from in-house software releases and 3rd party licensing fees.

I think "cost of production" is a bit misleading. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that a lot of the cost comes from R&D and advertising. I'm sure it's no $35 to produce an X-Box, but I'm betting the cost for materials and such is lower than $400. I'm guessing somewhere around $100.

But then, at the same time, I have to think it has to be more than that. A new video card costs around $400 by itself, not to mention a processor, RAM and hard drive.

Hum, maybe you're right, niteowl. That makes sense in a business angle

although i think that 35$ was the manufacturing price (not counting advertising and distribution costs, and they have long, long ago recouped the R&D costs) to the slimer PS2.

Microsoft planed to brake even on the Xbox around MAy 2004 , so they have already packed a pretty nifty sum from then on.

And finally Sony made one smart decision. No more freakin VU code!

No,no. In the same way that MS was demoing it's xbox stuff on Apple G5s, Sony's demos were not running on the hardware they imagine they'll be using in the PS3. The diference is MS has working chips from their vendors and Sony has dreams and an empty PS3 box.

I agree with that all the way, except Playstation will always sell more because they were really there first pioneering new graphics and such. I think the X-box was underrated because of its size and everyone thought that it wouldn't get any good 3rd party games. Well, granted that the X-box doesn't have the best games, it has some of the best looking games. Hopefully this new 360 will turn some heads with an even better online environment, more 3rd party games, and backward capability (which i hear is 99.9% likely).

From what Ive heard the PS3 is supposed to be the shit hot next gen console (games wise anyways) but I dont believe in the craftmanship of Sony to create anything that wont break down within 3 months of purchase, hence I wont be getting one.

XBox 360 supposedly had a poor showing at E3, with its most hyped game (Perfect dark zero, I think) not being displayed as the programming was pantaloons(Such is the ability of rare without team goldeneye). The best game Micro had to offer was a Need for speed game!?

Im usually a devout nintendo fanboy but I've been put off with their recent reliance on gimmicky hardware to try and sell a machine

(NO! Dear Nintendo HQ.. how can I make this clearer, when I see Mario, Luigi and some interactive bongo drum/ touch screen chocolate face mask, I want to cut my cock off and choke myself with it...
Yours in faith ...)

Though the backwards compatibility opens up much potential for a retro frenzy (Secret of Mana,Axelay all that old shit)..

Anyway Im going to keep my options open till one of the big three release a "must have" game or one of them drops to an affordable price.

The backwards-compatability thing is the only thing the new Nintendo box has going for it, in my opinion. I just have to question how one is going to *do* this. Will the console have a bunch of slots for old games? I heard something about loading on ROMs, rather than just plugging in the games. If that's so, will it reject all those old SNES/NES/Whatever ROMs I have on my computer?

It would be cool to pop those onto a real Nintendo box with perfect emulation on a big TV and play those old games.

You download the games directly onto the console from a service Nintendo will be providing. The "Revolution" is still in the controllers though, which Nintendo has yet to reveal. So far the top two guesses are motion sensing gyroscopes or touch-pads.
