Something that took me a little while to learn. Despite the usual convention "its" is the posessive of "it". It's weird, I know. "It's" is reserved for "it is".

Don't look at me, I don't make up these stupid rules. I think it has something to do with "it" being a pronoun. Yours, his, hers and theirs are all the same way. It's a damn stupid rule.
