Once, I wrote "grape." It said "g****." It saw g and rape separatly. It also censored pussy in pussy cat.

No obscenity filter is perfect. It's gonna make lots of mistakes.

But who uses the thing anyway, on this site?

I don't have any problems like that because I turn the freaking obscenity filter off.

The filter's just supposed to be a general search and replace. Lots of mistakes and so on.

I have a 9 year old, and she and told her neopets friends about this site. I insist she use the obscenity filter.

I think while it may not be perfect, its definitely a step in the right direction to make this site something that can have mass appeal.

There could be actually two other things you can add to your functionality.

1-A "NSFW" button a user can add or a moderater can tag on to a comic. "Not safe for work" basically makes the cartoon invisible if you have obscenity filter on. This way you can have an adult theme cartoon with no cuss words still remain invisible. I read one the other day about a boy who walks in on his mom changing twice that day..then he adds three days. nothing 'dirty' in the language, but certainly NSFW tag would help.

2-In addition to stars, users could have a type of rating from 1-5 on how adult the theme is. Anything with a 4-5 is invisible to people with obscenity filter.

While still imperfect, both would be ideal "CYA" type of thing.

One problem with another site (YTMND.COM) is that the user community is mostly gross and disgusting. The owner could probably get better advertising dollars if he didn't have so much disgusting content in his forums and on his site. He has the NSFW concept and is trying to implement it now.

Do you have problems with people reading over your shoulder at work? That seems to be a lot of work to solve a problem that can be solved by minimizing your browser before someone can read the text.

What WOULD be nice is if threads (or just pages of threads) could be tagged, so I'm not innocently playing Beat the Picture and have Ivy's boobs saying hi to the guy in the desk next to me.

Okay being a "responsible parent" like you seem to be trying to be, why would you let your 9 year old on here in the first place?

If it were me, and I were complaining about the nature of the comics, and the censorship, or lack thereof, of users in the forums, I wouldn't let my 9 year old daughter near this site. It's so easy, it almost seems difficult to do: block the website with a password.

Yeah, this isn't a safe place for a 9 year old, sure, there's an obscenity filter, but what happens if some clown posts big racist pictures from YTMND.com or something?

I never complained about this site.

do not put words in my mouth.

All I said, is if a user or moderater wanted to declare a cartoon "NSFW", its a general term. It doesn't mean you are opening these at work. It just means this is something you wouldn't open at "work". I think most people get that concept.

it is called a 'suggestion'.

Yeah, I forgot about that picture and found ivy's breasts staring back at me when I clicked on "beat the picture" on a computer in my school's library. I'm just glad no one walked by or saw. I mean... I though nudity like that wasn't allowed on this site.

i was a little worried when i posted that when i saw her ripe, juicy boobies started a new page. if it had just been at the bottom of the previous one it wouldn't have been as big a deal

Yeah, but isn't posting nudity in these forums an offense? It's technically an offensive image.

If anyone is offended by Ivy's boobs, please raise your hand.

*cricket chirp*

But seriously, BigFrank's technically right. Something to tag threads wouldn't meet any opposition from me if it were implemented.

if kids want to see tits they don't have to go any further than their nearest search engine or google image search. still, that doesn't stop google image from allowing those pictures to show up because they gear their product to their users, not to protecting kiddies innocent little minds, because they know that's an impossible feat on the internet

dingo,

its not that they 'want' to see something offensive. its that they go here and accidentally stumble on something offensive.

My suggestion is also more of a "CYA". If Brad has done everything he could possibly do and more, then it would be difficult to hold a candle under his toes and have some one scream "my child came here and saw Stephanie from Lazy Town sucking a dick!"

(Which they do have on the YTMND forums).

The actress that plays Stephanie apparently came and claimed she was going to sue Max on the YTMND forums if he didn't get rid of all her images. I was never sure if that was for real or not. seemed real though.

if you mean cover your ass by adding an NSFW tag to threads that's fine. if you mean cover your ass by disallowing the material, it's overreacting imo for the reason i gave

I have to agree with chicka; this ISN'T a child friendly site. I don't think we need to put more features in to shield their tiny, innocnet minds from anything bad, you should keep your kids away from this site period.

I've actually brought this point up every time we have this discussion, albeit mostly with the mods. It was decided that my balls weren't as offensive as an erect penis or some guy stetching his anus.

I don't find a pair of breasts offensive, there's no real set rule on what is and what isn't allowed on StripCreator. I've always just went with the theory that if it's offensive, it's wrong. If you see something on this site that offends you, PM brad or a moderator and we'll see about tidying it up or whatever.

Although if you're the kind of person who is offended easily then this probably isn't the right kind of site for you.

Since every woman on earth has breasts -- mastectomies not withstanding -- I find it hard to be offended by such everyday items. And since every male on earth has balls -- Lance Armstrong and men who wear GOP hats to NOW conventions not withstanding -- I find it equally has hard to understand why that would be offensive.

Even the goatse guy was thoroughly disgusting, but proctologists make more than I do and they have to look at that all the time.

I could go on a rant about how I feel about FCC regulations of TV, but I'll spare you.

I think the only issue is one that Kaenash inadveretnly brought up: safe for work. While I don't care if I'm looking at balls, it can certainly get me reprimanded or fired. That's the only reason I'd support tagging thread pages: other people's prudism. They could be tagged by anyone who posts, or by mods, or both. But it would be a useful feature.

You could even have a feature that tags individual posts. A tagged post could, say, display images as a triple-red X unless the obscenity filter was off. That sort of thing.

I still wouldn't let my 9 (or is it 10, as I read in another thread) child near this site, period. I don't think that children at that age, responsible or not, are mature enough for most of the content on this site. There are plenty of kid oriented sites out there, this one isn't one. Plus, I'd want to save all the users here from the horrible comics that I'm sure would be "contributed".

I don't have a problem with NSFW tags, that was never my argument. I just have a problem with the content you allow your child to have access to.

I love how T&A is always hotly debated, but when it comes to violence, it's generally ignored, even by the most prudish of people. It sucks quite a bit.

I had no idea my boobs were this debated about.

People could always post images as links instead, with a note that it's nudity. Then people who are at work stand a better chance. And if they click through, then...
