People who create alter-egoes and then have conversations with them are annoying.

I think you will find that the plural of ego is actually egos, not egoes.

My job in life seems to be the bizarre task of correcting DrPedantic...

actually, the doctor told me in a tearful confession about his struggle with how to pluralize "ego." apparently, he was too tired to look it up.

I used to spend quite a bit of time on zug.com when they first got their message boards up and running. They didn't have a log in feature, but rather let you type your name in each time you submitted a post. Hence it was really easy to make people up. I once started a thread and made about thirty replies to it all under different names. Which you're allowed to do if you're a colossal geek.

I remember a BBS like that back in the days when people still used BBS's (and Clovis points). We quickly found out that there was nothing to stop us from imitating other users (and portraying them as narcs, donkey wranglers, Republicans, or what-have-you).

Ah, for fun. Those were the days when you could derail certain terminals simply by including "no carrier" somewhere in your message body.

Oh my, this thread's gotten all "old school" while I wasn't looking. "Hit ALT-H for SysOp access!" is the only contribution I can think of right now.

I just thought I should mention that, since Dan and I are twins, and I am clearly the good twin while he is the evil twin, that Big Evil Dave is obviously some kind of faker.

...unless we're triplets... *gasp!*

No, that can't be right... what kind of mother would have triplets, and name one Daniel and two David? It is completely illogical. Besides, whoever heard of an evil triplet? It's... against tradition.
