I like the neovid character.

Can we have something like this as neovid3 and neovid4?

it is an imagining of the character in the future, with his hair cut and slight grey on the sides. OldNeovid.

I did not do the original artwork (obviously). Just a little touch up.

I like using the neovid character in my comics, and I would have no problem making variations on a few others if anyone wanted me to.

yes, given this site never shows boobs in messages. Absolutely fiendish to post a comic with a boob in it, in the 'look at my comics' forum, in a thread entitled 'partial nudity'. Totally off topic for that.

Especially considering it was a clever way of grabbing the users attention to ask nicely if there could be an alt neovid character, when there are so many alts elsewhere.

You've got everyone convinced I've done something "wrong" by simply contributing an alt version of neovid or making an animated gif, etc. Its really amazing to me that this is how you get your kicks.

Kaenash, there is *no one* who thinks that your slight variations of existing characters is a good idea, least of all the original artist. He submitted that art to this site strictly for the intended use of puting them in comics as-is.

There are a couple of pieces of submitted art that I drew. Don't touch either of them. No, I won't tell you which ones.

I created the Priest character by modifying the Fuzzyman character DexX made for me. Jamalia and Lenny come from similar bouts of Photoshopping (and arm from one character, the eye of another, etc).

The point is that I used DexX's art as a starting point to create something very different and useful for the site. The Priest offers lots of comic possibilities, and at the time I created Jamalia and Lenny there were few other black characters on the site.

I offered them up with the caveat that DexX had veto ability if he didn't like what I did. Thankfully he felt that I changed them enough to make them worthwhile.

What is the point of a Neovid with short hair? My constructive criticism is this: Figure out if there is a character that would be useful and unique, and if you modify an existing character to create it, I for one would not mind if you used parts of existing chracters if the end result was sufficiently different. Of course you'd have to get an okay in the end from the original artists, so it's a gamble if you create something and they don't like it.

For example, one thing we're missing is... the Pope. Or a character that could be generically the Pope or a Bishop.

The same artist created three separate poses. It isn't an alien drawn by one person and then someone else came along and photoshopped on an afro.

I'm guessing the original artist would care who made the change. Considering you didn't ask him and seem to not care about his work at all. I'm guessing he wouldn't be ok with your "changes."

I love their work. I've said that from the start.

I think he was banned for having bad ideas.

Fuzzyman has the right idea, I think...

He saw a need, some character types that were missing from the site (black characters, a priest, and I think he did some others) and he used some of my old characters pretty much as templates to create original pieces of digital art.

What Kaenash has done is look at the existing characters, have a play around to see what he could do with them, and then say "Here, use these, aren't they great?" His approach is totally backward. Instead of trying to fill a gap, he's trying to cram things into an already over-filled space.

Oh, and the concrete-trowel paint job on the short-haired Neovid's blue shirt is rough and clumsy, unnecessarily so.

I think DexX would heartily approve of the use Kaenash has made of his art!

Stop coddling this Kaenash character. He is clearly a menace and needs to be stopped.

when did it become a standard rule not to submit characters you've tweaked?

if people don't like his tweaks, cool, but don't give him grief for tweaking art when tweaked art was just added to the site a couple months ago

Mandingo, just like with the 2006 contribution, you got it right, and yet because one truism of internet arguing is "If the swarm say it is true, then it must be".

I am a "menace" because I colored in and tweaked a character that I would enjoy using on the site. See how it works? How dare I.

Mandingo raises a very good point--other art has been tweaked and subsequently added to the site. His examples, however, took the art in a different direction and created new comedic possibilities for the site.

It's been said over and over in other threads: We have enough generic white guys here. What we need is diversity in age, gender, and race, or characters that offer unique new situations (like the fireman, doctor, mailman, nurse, etc).

So let's back off of Kaenash. He had an idea. It wasn't a particularly useful one. We should get over it. Kaenash, feel free to offer up other submissions, just keep in mind what the site needs rather than what you need.
