I looked into registering #stripcreator on Undernet and it seems like it may be too much hassle for me to deal with setting up. Here are some excerpts from the Undernet channel registration agreement:

You need to have 10 DIFFERENT supporters (people, not just 10 different usernames) to register a channel. Make sure all your supporters are active members of your channel and that they all agree to support you as manager. If any of the people who you list as a supporter indicates they do not support your channel, you will lose the right to register any channel for 3 days.

Your supporters must go to the web page and indicate whether they support your application or not or /msg x support #channelname (YES or NO). If all of your supporters do not respond within 3 days, your application will be rejected.

During the registration period, Channel Service will be checking to insure all your supporters are really users of the channel and are actually joining it. They need to be logged into X before they join so that they will be counted. Repeat: PLEASE BE SURE YOUR SUPPORTERS LOG INTO X BEFORE THEY JOIN THE CHANNEL OTHERWISE THEY WILL NOT BE COUNTED.

and:

NOTE: Filling out this application does NOT constitute registering your channel. It is only applying to register.The entire registration process takes about 10 days.

The #stripcreator channel would also have to be "kept alive" (read: have people in it) for ten days without there being a big horrible struggle for power of some kind.

Anyhow, if you want to be a supporter, you need to go get an account at http://www.cservice.undernet.org/live/ and send me your account name (it doesn't have to be the same as your nick). I need to provide these when I register the account. You can e-mail it to me at brad@stripcreator.com or ICQ it to me at 11781367.

I'll also be making an attempt to sit in the #stripcreator channel on Undernet whenever I'm around.

If I have at least 10 people willing to help out reasonably soon, I'll give it a shot. If not, I'm not going to bother. Let me know.

EFNet is good if you really like netsplits, which I unfortunately don't. Setting up a bot on Undernet right now to idle and maintain ops for me. Letting Undernet do the work after ten days would be nice though.

That was the truth of it a few years ago, but I have found efnet to be much more stable than undernet, of late.

Brad October 8, 2001 10:50 PM	Well, there's a bot (robotbrad) now set up in #stripcreator on Undernet. If Undernet does me wrong, I can rustle up some bots in there post-haste. And if nobody uses the channel, I can just can it all and tell everyone "I tried" when they ask me why there isn't an IRC channel.

Actually , a lot of us are happy undernet even still exists. A year or so back , the company that hosts undernet was the victim of a series of sustained DOS attacks. They closed undernet to all intents and purposes , removed all the bots , and generally , undernet almost died.

And yeh. It was a massive hassle setting channels back up. But we got em back , and its worth the effort.

Besides. youd be amazed at what else you can find on there with a little effort.

I'm gonna make this kind of quick since I'm at Kinkos at $.20 a minute... Obi emailed me and told me about the Undernet support thing I'm supposed to do... Only my password is back home. I tried poking around their site trying to figure out how to get them to mail it to me but to no avail. I'm going to try send an email to help@undernet.org to see if that'll work. If they can email me my password I'll be set. If any of you know how I can get them to give it to me, send me an email and tell me.
