Donors should now have a "make png" link underneath their comics. Click this and it should (slowly) render you a PNG of that comic.

You can save that image, print it, email it, etc.

This is still a way, way beta feature and I'm not sure how it'll stand up with regular use. But I got it to work, so you can play with it if you like.

Let me know any problems you have or how awesome it is or anything.

I am printing and laminating my comics as we speak.

Then I shall throw them at enemies like Gambit.

That's really awesome, brad! I totally dig this feature... so many people have asked "how can I save my strips" over the years.

*THIS IS GREAT*

I noticed on single strip comics, it takes out the background. I tried it on two different ones I have. "Welcome to Stripcreator" and "Colonel Sanders Cares". I can upload if needed.

It worked fine on three strip comics and I didn't test on two strips.

Also wanted to give you this url

http://www.html2jpg.com/

This is a tool that I am not sure if you would be interested in. The enterprise editions can convert urls to full jpgs and there may be some mass batch job or application to it that may be of use to you.

I am amazed at how clever you are to convert to png. I do not really use png usually, but it opens up fine so that is all I care about.

This feature is an example of how Brad never lets grass grow under his feet. Constant improvement and change makes me a slave to this web site and Brad personally.

Master! You have done well by us all!

If you can give me links to any strips that it doesn't work for, I'd appreciate it.

Also keep in mind that it's using the Gecko engine (the one in Mozilla Firefox) so some of the panel stretching stuff will render differently than it does in IE.

I got nothing when I tried it on a single panel strip in both Firefox and IE. The only thing that showed up was the "This image will be automatically deleted. Save it to your hard drive" message. Two panel strips worked fine in both browsers.

Here's a single panel strip for testing:

Otherwise, BRAVO! Thanks a lot, Brad, this is cool.

I killed the cached png that was in there and reloaded it and it seemed to work. This thing's pretty ricketty and if there are network glitches or something, it'll result in a bad render.

My single panel render worked just fine. Seems fixed (for me at least).

Thanks everyone. It seems to work better than I expected. Now I need to figure out how to implement it in the site. Printable version? Email to a friend?

Some sort of email/blog option would be nicest because it's not the quickest thing in the world.

If you are familliar with Yafro.com, it is a place where people house huge amounts of photos. I put some of my stripcreator comics there in the past and people seemed to enjoy them.

You can have personal accounts, but also free 'clubs' that people can join.

Wouldn't it be interesting to start a 'Club' on Yafro and have the .png automatically or be saved and then upload there?

just a thought.

Awesome feature.

I can't render this comic though (3 panels): (h) ttp://www.stripcreator.com/comics/Injokester/347209

It leaves the background as white panels. This has happened on 2 different computers (both IE). I could render the exact same background and characters in another strip though. Every other one I've tried is fine.

I think I used that strip as a test before it had all the backgrounds cached. I deleted the png and it seems to work now.

For what it's worth, this comic (PNG)

has not been erased after rendering. multiply that by many and storage becomes a factor.

Not that I mind. but I thought you'd want to know Brad, or maybe not.

You can't just link to a picture in your "my documents" folder. You have to upload it. Try something like photobucket.

Obviously we're on a different wavelength, Senesi.

What I am trying to point out is that PNGs are not being erased from Brad's SERVER in the timely fashion he hoped for, as witnessed by the continuing presence of the toon in my previous post which resides in SC.com's ROOT DIRECTORY.

Whereas your illustrious example is keyed to your own hard drive as a demonstration.

Forgive my impetuousness if your post was directed toward a different problem.

Yeah it's not deleting them right now as I'm still testing this PNG stuff. The notice is just to drive the point home that you shouldn't rely on those images to stay on the SC servers.
