This is a sort of follow-on to kramer_vs_kramer's thread about seeing a comic of his on the front page.

I've noticed that a most of the times I see the front page, the strip is usually a *really* crappy one by somone who apparently visited the site, made 3 or 4 strips, and left. They give a pretty bad first impression to someone coming here for the first time. (Not only that, they are just dreadful to read).

Perhaps there might be a way to limit those strips displayed on the main page to people who have done X number of strips... maybe 20 or so; I'm not sure what a good number would be. Enough that the strips displayed on the front page are likely to be from someone who is genuinely working at making funny strips.

Just a thought -- this might be an easy way to cull out some of the really bad strips.

I'm not so sure I like this idea. Because it sort of eliminates the purpose of having a random front page comic. I mean, that would be like having "Stripcreator.com : A place where you can make some comics that nobody will see. And see some comics by some guys who some other guy likes, or just happens to have spent more manhours here than you have." Lets face it, most of the comics on this site suck. That's the beauty of the internet. You can put up crap for no reason and people are almost required by law to see it.

Yeah, I mean maybe if it was like made known on the front page like

"THIS IS A RANDOM COMIC SUBMITTED BY A USER"

(if it already says this, and I never saw it, make it more obvious)

Most people come here with reference from someone else showing of their comics, so ususlly their going to sign up even if their was gay arse sex on the front page (reports claim 1/30 commics contain references to ass sex)

I'd think the ratio is something like 2 in 5 referring to ass sex, with the remaining 3 out of 5 containing some sort of reference to "wirthling sucks."

More like 1/10 have ass sex, 1/15 have donkey sodomy, 1/25 have to do with Wirthling sucking, and 4/7 are illiterate haxxor crap.

Some even sign up because there was gay ass sex on the front page.

Are there plans to reintroduce a scoring system?

The scoring system never went away.

Our ability to see our scores, on the other hand...

I just haven't had the desire to try and fix scoring. I'm thinking about replacing (or modifying) the front page so that it shows a Filepile-like (www.filepile.org) list of the last 10 comics, the last 10 forum posts, the last 10 new users, the last 10 search queries and maybe some other things if I can think of them. It would probably be more useful than the current front page.

A lot of the comics I see just plain suck. Half of 'em are all H039x00we and shit like that... It's just annoying. If yer gonna make a comic strip, use a REAL language. There's my rant.

A rehash of a rehash of a rant. :)
Everyone's complained about that annoying crap before.

Brad, I like the filepile idea. Although it would be cool if you also put a "get a random strip" button on this front page. And, while I'm asking, a field into which we could enter a strip number and be taken to that strip.

From what I understand, people were complaining about the quality of the strips within a week of its release. It's a time honored tradition.

You were complaining long before the Strip Creator existed.

Or a festival.

I remember one of the first threads was dedicated to bitching about a cripper named qwert and how he was unfunny and cheating the scoring system.

(cripper = comic stripper.)

Yes, but I have high hopes that it will catch on. I have had great success introducing other words into the english language.
