Came across this on the front page today:

/comics/umunhum/380603/

It sounded a bit familiar... then I realized it's essentially a verbatim reprint of a Dilbert strip that I saw (either online in the past few weeks, or in book #26 or #28 that I just read, or maybe even on Scott Adams' blog -- but it was definitely relatively recent).

Maybe he's doing it in some sort of hyper-ironic sense, and I can't imagine Mr. Adams would actually care, but given the litigous nature of damn near everyone nowadays... figured I should probably at least say something and throw it out there.

And now that I have, I leave it in the capable hands of folks far more expert in such matters than I. :D

I'm glad this was brought to my attention like this. I've emailed Mr. Dilbert creator and am currently awaiting a response from him.

I really don't think he will give a shit. It's not like umunhum is making money off it, or even getting any amount of recognition. It's just some idiot stealing a joke, which happens all the time.

Depends on who it is, actually, d -- IIRC, Fox was at one time notorious for hounding personal web pages that used Simpsons images and demanded everyone use only their lame-ass "officially licensed images," and the RIAA always beefs over file-sharing services (and nobody was making any money off of that either).  As for Scott Adams, I doubt he would care so much (in tort cases doesn't one have to prove that some damage was actually caused?) over one or two such things, but then again, a bunch of writers from a major newspaper in my city got fired over roughly the same thing a few years ago... so what do I know?

*shrugs*

I still haven't gotten any response. I have since sent out several seperate emails asking if he would like the plagarised work removed from the site all together and giving him Brad's contact info.

While it boggles my mind why someone would want to copy a Dilbert stirp verbatim into stripcreator, I don't see why Scott Adams would care.  (I don't think he uses the site.)  I will say publicly that the stripper (I can never remember the sequence of us and ms in his name) is pretty pathetic for doing it.

To the person who plagiarised and those that think SO WHAT :

In this world we learn to befriend and reach out to others--hell that is part of what stripcreator is for, agreed?-- it is about honesty and trust.   The character of the people we let into our lives, shapes our lives.

We each put part of ourselves in our strips.  The content of our strips, reflects on the contents of our souls.

Care and truthfulness are two languages that need to be practiced more often. Just as we practice the language of humor from doing our strips.

We should care about the truth.  And about being truthful.

No.  stripcreator is about making comic strips.  You seem to be confusing stripcreator with some sort of hippie butt-fucking festival.  People around here usually appreciate it if you're not quite so high when you post stuff.

I actually did it as an experiment to see if you guys were paying attention.  I had no idea of the number of A/R people here.  Whew!

I like the fact that some guy acutally emailed Scott Adams.  He must feel very "empowered".

I think half the jokes in the world have been comicified on this site, so someone using a Dilbert strip , even if its word for word, isnt exactly a huge surprise.

Besides , are there enough people with sticks the size of a small west african country up their arse to make it an issue worthy of serious debate, or do we have another multi-email account troll on the spin?

(PS : Guilty. I think ive nicked a fewof my strips from various sources where theyve been printed, although usually in word format rather than Comic. And anyone who reads the Kurashima account will note ive stolen a couple of Kaufman comics, simply because nobody can match those puns, so I consider them some kind of twisted homage to the man, since the restraining order means i cant thank him in person).

I copied a Dilbert comic verbatim, but I titled it "Infringing the copyrights of United Feature Syndicate."
