I hear tell that the respective First Ladies of the UK and the US, Cherie Blair and Laura Bush, are launching campaigns to "highlight the Taliban's brutal oppression of women". How noble of them. I wonder why they've just now decided that the Taliban's lunatic policies are so unsavoury! They never complained about them before.

Also, can we now expect to see them denouncing the appalling treatment of women in, say, Saudi Arabia? I suspect not. Perhaps if the Saudi Arabians start becoming too selfish with their oil, Cherie and Laura will suddenly notice how barbarically they treat their womenfolk!
