CC84 calls for a 1984 theme. Requirements:

1. Something about the actual year 1984.

2. A slogan of the form, "[adjective][noun] is [verb]ing you."

3. As Orwellian an atmosphere as you can invoke in three panels.

4. Or a greater number.

5. I'll judge Friday noonish.

6. Geese a' laying

7. Never mind 6.

I'll volunteer to run the betting pool on who first submits "Red robot is cornholing you."

Aw, anyone can be first. But the tenth gets free tickets to see the Smoking Manholes open for Kenny G.

JsmyMan, I thought I should tell you I liked this one, since you're getting such a hard time lately. Also, I consider you Most Likely to Accidentally Get Someone Pregnant Next. Something about Pentecostals never planning to sin. Anyway, you insulted Reagan and yourself in one stroke, and I salute you.

Damn, participation seemed low in this one, but I liked all the strips. I single out Drexle for berating a heavyweight contender for Most Obnoxious 80s trend and Spankling for, well, for being Spankling.

Kaufman, you should know that when I thought of doing a 1984 contest, the very first two ideas that came to mind were, in this order: 1) "Red Robot is cornholing you"; 2) that Apple commercial. I will have to start wearing my foil hat again. Calling Reagan an evil dinosaur won several million points, but I had to disqualify you for reading the moderator's mind. No fair using ESP.

So the George Orwell Award for Clarity in Comics goes to:

46274

fpd! Very Orwellian, and very, very 1984.

I see that fpd's participation here is sporadic, so if he doesn't post a new contest in, oh, 36 hrs, or whatever, I invite Dr. Kaufman to claim the honor.

A point of order here, section 13a of the Stripcreator bylaws state:

The gender of all new Stripcreator users will be considered to be neuter until a quorum of six forumusers vote and assign a gender to said user. If no consensus can be reached, the gender of the new user will be assigned from the results of the Gender Test.

As a point of interest, section 13b states:

The approved genders for Stripcreator users are: male, female, and Spankling.

Thanks, I'm glad to have won a contest here for the first time, and I have already begun the new contest.

For those who are curious, I will provide annotations on the little details that may have escaped some people about my strip. First, the strip has five references to 1984. In 1984, the sitcom Three's Company ended, and it was replaced by its sequel Three's a Crowd. The sitcom Happy Days ended that same year. Madonna released her hit song "Like a Virgin," and the threat of AIDS was leading people away from the free love and swinging practiced in the 70's. To make it Orwellian, I began with animals, in the spirit of Animal Farm. I was disappointed that there were no farm animals among the pictures available, but I made do with squirrels. Then I added a few doses of doublethink, weaving it around the 1984 references I chose to use.

What's the pink donkey, chopped liver?

And Spankling's probably been harnessed to a plow once or twice :-)
