I was chating to this person online, and my best friend josh is staring over my shoulder(we've been having a falling out or something). Anyway, he leaves later in a bad mood, not saying goodbye, and afterwards my dad comes and shows me an email from josh about how he thinks that I swore to this person online(someone from church that I know). So my Dad asks me if I did, and I tell him the truth(I didn't). Now I feel betrayed and falsely acused by Josh. This is the first time he's done anything like that, and I don't know how to deal with him. He went behind my back and told my dad I did something that I didn't do, and I have no idea why he didn't ask me first or whatever. I feel really bad about this and don't know how to handle the matter.

The answer is to leave Amishland and join the real fucking world where people swear.

Approaching him from the standpoint of, "Hey, my father got this note from you. Do you think you actually saw me type a swear? Because I honestly don't remember doing anything like that."

This gives him the opportunity to defuse the situation by admitting he was "mistaken" instead of admitting he lied. He may never admit he lied. But if he says he made a mistake, you can say, "Look, if you have a problem with me, talk to ME about it before going to my Dad. I wouldn't do that to you."

On Saturday night I was held back by no less than 2 police men for punching my best friend for nothing more than a spilled pint. He's still my best friend and not another word is said about it. If this is the kind of shit that goes on without me batting an eye, then why would I give two fucks about you being accused of swearing in a chat-room?

Sounds like a good friend you've got there, anyway. I agree with Bunner, call him on it, throw a massive strop, then don't speak to him for a while. Make it very clear he's offended you.

If he really is a friend, this will get him to realise he was in the wrong. If he values grassing you up to your dad over being a good friend, then screw him. Really. You don't need friends like that.
