I was just thinking about favourites lists, and how we used to have to write up our own, before Brad noticed everyone was doing it and added it as a feature. As far as I can remember, I was the first one to do that, and posted to the forum (back when there was only one) suggesting that other regulars do the same so that new users could follow a path around from author to author. That, in turn, got me thinking about the other stripcreator.com innovators, those who first suggested or introduced things which we now take for granted. I can only think of a few, but I would love you all to mention some more.

wirthling
- Invented Dr Pedantic.
- Coined the phrase "wirthling sucks".

Gabe
- Invented the comic contest.
- Turned "wirthling sucks" into a legend.

skagg
- Invented the comic cup.

boorite
- Invented Tobor the Cornholing Robot.

DexX
- Invented the favourites list (maybe... I think someone else may have done it without the HTML before me).
- Created the first one-note character username - DrPedantic, password "getitright".

Max
- Made the now legendary "Cowboy Physics" strip.

-Came to stripcreator a tenacious, smirking upstart, pissing everyone off and creating the need for our Fights go Here forum.

-Started the chain reaction that led to the inside "fawn" jokes by saying he wasn't offended with specific gay people unless they started fawning over him.
(Ok, that one was really weak, I'll shut up now)

January 14, 2002 12:54 PM

Among the innovations kaufman is infamous for ...

-Those comics which cram in a zillion things in a particular category.
-Popularizing (if not actually originating) the Movies/Books/etc. in 3 Panels strips.
-If not the inspiration for Comic 38801, I'd like to think I'm at least its most frequent "flier."
-The Mystery Contest.

Innovator of the now famous "first (and last) Cleveland Munch Meet at Gabe's house"

Alas, I, too, have wondered exactly why
it's called a MUNCH meet... ?

and better yet, who would want to visit Cleveland ?

Actually, if you'll notice, I'm the one who suggested the meet. "Munch" is a term from some newsgroups. It generally refers to a meet for lunch. Technically, the meet that we had was a "mink", which is a meet for drinks.

The term "munch meet" is not used. It's redundant, like ATM machine and PIN number.

Brad (apart from the fairly significant "making the whole fucking site" thing...)
- Came up with the idea of the comic tags in the forums, allowing the forum we see today to take its form.

Actually, I read a bit of my ICQ message history, and I have my year old chats with Brad in there. Weird reading... Anyway, I thought it was interesting that the comic tags were originally conceived as a comic forum, in which all postings and conversations would have been SC.com strips. One of those interesting ideas that never quite happened.

A year ago everything sucked for me. Luckily I don't have any of my ICQ histories going back that far so I can't go relive my miserable bitching and moaning.

This thread's kind of neat. I've been reading it and trying to remember various landmarks, but I pretty much only remember negative or inappropriate stuff such as the first account I was forced to delete by anti-spam vigilantes, the first time stripcreator was reported to the FBI for having "hateful content" on it, the first time I told someone I ran stripcreator.com and they assumed it was a porn site, the first person to say stripcreator had "gone downhill because of all the new people", the first time I showed the site to my mother and the first comic wa and the first person to give me money for the site.

I think crabby started/invented the "band in three panels" thing which I don't see anymore, but thought was pretty clever. It made me think of the idea of making an "In Three Panels" forum where people could condense books and movies and bands and such. Then I wouldn't have to read or go to movies or listen to music anymore.
