I've been approached about putting banner ads on stripcreator.com. I personally am not a big fan of the things, but money does unfortunately help web sites run.

I'm going to make a decision about it in the next day or so, so if you have any opinions about it please post them here. Thanks.

Banner ads don't really bother me much, it's pop-up windows that piss me off, if that's what we're talking here, I'll double whatever they're offering you!

My complaints with banner ads are that they (1) make loading pages much slower for those of us on slow connections, and (2) they drop dozens of unwanted cookies on your disk. Other than that, they're mostly harmless.

Now if, on the other hand, you display bunner abs ...

HA, this is how I read the message at first.

I'm with Kajun on this one, though I would rather they were hidden at the bottom if the amount doesn't change anything. Don't make it them stupid "You have a new message" ones though, these piss me off.

And Brad didn't you say before that you didn't get a lot of money off them anyway?

I'm neutral towards banner ads, but pro-stripcreator. I say go for it.

Anything that'll make you some dough is fine by me, regardless of how annoying it is.

I'm anti-advertising, but do what you have to. Unobtrusive banners would indeed be a lot better than popups.

Who's approaching you? I've been using Burst, but I haven't been to thrilled with their ability to sell targeted ads.

Technobrands. Never heard of them before. I know a couple of guys on Burst who are kind of unhappy, but pretty much anyone running banners is. Luckily I'm unhappy to begin with, so it can't really make it any worse.

Thanks for the positive feedback, everyone. I'm going to talk to the guy a bit more over the next few days and see what he's got in mind. It may all come to nothing, but we'll see.

I was one of the people who suggested banner ads. I still think it would be fine, if it would represent a profit for you. I just hope against hope that you'll say no to popups.

Hey, maybe if it's feasible, you can rotate in some banners for user-created sites. :)

you could put an ad on the main page that says "dcomposed sucks more dick than all of asia" and I still wouldn't care, as long as it makes you some money.

You should put it on your website, it would kick the ass.

I have no problem with banners (or anything else a guy chooses to do with his own website). I just want to know whether we're allowed to relentlessly mock the advertisers and deface thier ads in photoshop.

You may want to check this site for ratings of the different ad companies. I couldn't find anything on Technobrands. I'd definitely do some background research on whoever you go with.

Make sure you get paid on impressions, not click-throughs, Brad. 0.01 cents per impression will make you a lot more than 1 cent per click-through, despite how the numbers look.

Oh, and I don't think any of us would mind filling out some anonymous marketing info if it means the ads will be more relevant to users of this site. If we're going to have to put up with banners, I would prefer them to advertise something I give a shit about occasionally. If we get any X-Cam pop-ups, however... *dangerous look*

Avoid porn banners too, if you can. They would make your site look tacky.

Yeah, I wouldn't want fuck's comics to get tarnished by porn banners in close proximity.

I would rather not be porn spammed as well. But thats just me.
er... you know what i mean.

Also, I find banner ads to be less intrusive when they're on the bottom of the page rather than the top. I don't know if they pay you less for that or whatever...::shrugs::

pop ups don't bother me
i have a program that takes any window attempting to pop up, leads it to a clearing, asks it to describe that little ol' place with the rabbits, and then shoots it lovingly in the back of the head...

if i actually want something to pop up i have to hold down control...
makes surfing with one hand difficult
take that anyway you like it

I've got the same program, but does it still make money if the ads dont come up?
