I have to say that I think anything that reinforces the pointless distinction between newbies and regulars is just what we don't need. Newbies should be encouraged to act like normal people, not segregated.

Maybe we should just add a question to the FAQ. Q: You don't like me because I'm new, right? A: No, we don't like you because you're an ass and/or not funny.

I don't think that the newbies that you guys really hate are going to be polite enough to only post in the newbie forum.

Also good points! (What a spineless git I am.)

I was envisioning something like a baby guppy tank where they would not clutter up the main tank or be eaten by their elders.

Maybe we could create a penalty box, or purgatory. A forum that exists for logons that overstep some vague dictatorial boundary. You could make that the only forum they could post to for a matter of weeks. Having to live with only each other as company might help them see the error of their ways. Of course this would take some server side verification to keep folks from creating a million IDs just to stay out of the pen.

I'm sure that would have the same rehabilatory success as our penal system.

Hmm, putting the newbies in their own forum MIGHT work, however, a slightly more elitist idea might be to create another forum that's for regulars only.

Newbies would then have something to aim for, clean up their attitude and try to be a bit funnier in order to be accepted and allowed into the "Executive Washroom" as it were.

Although, I don't know how often we'd use it, unless we were wanting a discussion/competition that wasn't going to be ruined by trolls.

My jellydish spine tells me this is an interesting idea too. Maybe a set of boards beyond the secured door.

Another plus point would be that there would be no alter-ego's able to post, which would make life a little sweeter.

One of the problems with the private forum is: who decides who gets in? I assume that no matter what happens, someone will get in that someone else in the forum doesn't like. It would be moderately easy to set up a forum that only people who have donated or who have been members for X amount of time can post to, but I don't know if that's going to be very satisfying for people who want zero tolerance for idiots. The other alternative is for me or someone to actively police the forum, which sounds like no fun.

Really, the best strategy is for everyone to ignore people who annoy them. The more you fan the flames by replying, the more they'll want to come around and enrage you. It really works.

I like all of these ideas, but they need more sodomy.
