Waylon Jennings is dead at 64. We can thank him, along with Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker, Johnny Cash, and their associates, for bucking the Nashville system and bringing something genuine back to American pop music.

Strangely, I had a dream a few weeks ago that the radio was announcing "Willie Nelson dead at 63." It was so realistic that I made a note of it. I had absolutely no idea whatsoever of Willie's age, but he is indeed 63.

It could be that my little prophecy missed the target, but only by thaaaaaaaat much: It's Waylon at 64.

I've been considering getting a new tagline and was hoping you'd dream me up something new, but "Willie Nelson dead at 63" just doesn't work for me.

Best I've done lately is: "During testing, the added measure of dropping the vehicle from a height failed to ensure operator safety."

In my house hangs a photo of Waylong and his wife, and below, a picture of my parents. It was originally a memorial in honor of the event of my parents meeting the country couple. I think it stands for much more now.
Goodbye Waylon, my parents will miss you, and so will I.
