I am now a daddy! My girlfriend gave birth friday 2-22-02 at 22:09. The two of us are now proud parents of a 7 lbs. 6 oz. baby girl. We named her Rebecca Hailey.

I've slept a good 5 hours in the last 4 days. We took her in for induction of labor on friday at 6:30 AM and I was so excited I couldn't sleep at all Thursday night. Friday night I was up all night with the baby since she slept in our room. I tried to do as much as I could while I was in the hospital with my girlfriend so she could relax. We got to bring her home Sunday around 11 AM.

So far fatherhood is awesome. Just looking at her and seeing how much she looks like my girlfriend and I almost brings tears to my eyes. This is easily the greatest thing that's ever happened to me in my entire life. I eagerly await being woken up at all hours of the night for feedings and diaper changes. I have lots of pictures but I have no way of posting them. I'll try to find a way to get them up on the site for everyone to see soon.

Wow, if that isn't the best attitude I've ever seen from a 17/18 year old father... Amazingly enough, I'm actually happy for you right now, which is no small feat considering that I've never met you before. *Big hug for the crabby one*

My girlfriend Bev is, so far, the best thing that has ever happened to my life, ever. I am pretty sure that everyone should agree with me on this one.

But anyway, keep up the good work and poor grammar.

Wow, what high spirits we have! Of course, I would be in high spirits as well if I had just given birth and had plenty of friends to ask advice of. I'm glad you got to experience the treasure at such an early age, actually. I think it takes a lot more endurance and courage to raise a child when you're not completely grown yourself. I don't mean that in a negative way, just that it's going to be hard, and I hope you're blessed with the patience to withstand it.

Congrats!

Drexle's avatar looks suspiciously Final Fantasy-ish to me.

crabby - while I shudder at the thought of a teenager raising a child, I'm in no position to judge: were I in your shoes, you wouldn't be able to see me for dust. But you seem a lot more responsible than that. Good luck!

Joshw: Its coincidence that the character looks a lot like me in the first place, but it's NOT coincidence that I photoshopped a little goatee on his face. As for sarcasm... would you believe me no matter what I say? :)

andy: Yep, got it in one. Some people claim it was the worst (or one of the worst) of the series, but I thought FFVII was the last great Final Fantasy.

Having only played VII,VIII and IX I must say that 7 is the best. Though FFVI is coming out down here on Wednesday, with a FFX demo then maybe it won't be. Though I'm still confused with the ending of FVII.

Drexle
February 25, 2002 9:46 AM

Don't get me wrong, I've got no arguements against the greatness of VI. That game had obsessorific features that kept the geeky fanboy in me happy for years... like beating the game with *only* the three chracters it requires you to pick up after the world goes to shit. There were ways in which I thought that they got some things perfect in that game that they failed to recreate in future installments, like the fact that as much as I liked materia, I also liked it when characters had individual skills (and while IX gave them individual skills, they mucked up other things in the process... garg!).

The only thing I truly disliked about VII aside from the translation was that I wish more of the game took place in Midgar... the place was frickin' huge and you only got to visit maybe 10% of the whole city. Besides that, it was just a damn cool setting.

I haven't played X yet... don't have a PS2.

Oh and Bazilla, the ending of FF VII is supposed to be confusing from what I gather. I remember hating it at first, but I think what they wanted you to do was to reflect on things as opposed to having it all spelled out for you. It's certainly a better ending than IV had, that's for sure.

Bazilla
February 25, 2002 9:59 AM

Yeah, it was sort of confusing, but I did (I think) get it, it's just, it seemed unfinished, there was nothing telling you what happened to any of the characters. That's why I quite like FF9, it's more of a "fantasy" land, and is more happy-ever-after-esque. I agree though, you should of been able to search Midgar more, ah well. At the moment it's still the best, until I get to play FFVI (and hopefully sometime IV) to think different.

Congratulations, I think. Better you than me. I'm just not yet ready for that amount of joy.

I have no child-raising experience, but I have had experience taking care of a number of cats. I have this advice: When giving the baby medication, have your girlfriend hold the baby by the back of its neck while you squirt the medicine in her mouth. And watch out for the claws when your girlfriend lets go.

And you're in your 30s you said? You remind me of my brother... excpet I think you could replace the word "yet" with "ever."

I have a feeling I'll end up the same way.

But I have to say it again crabby, unless you were being sarcastic I think you already have step one of being a good parent down pat. I hope things turn out well over the next... ummm... rest of your life, actually, but specifically the next 18 years or so.

If I don't want to be woken up by a pair of hungry cats, I put them in the garden for the night, I assume the same applies for babies.

Oh, and if it shits in an undesirable place, I advice putting some pepper or paprika down on the carpet, it'll soon learn.

I must offer my congratulations as well. My only regret is that you didn't reach it and yank little Becca out a couple of hours earlier, making the moment of her birth the revered 20:02 20/02 2002, thereby assuring her place in the annals of geekdom.

What's wrong with 2-22-02 at 22:02 ? That way there are 6(multiple of 2) 2s, and 2 0s, and the zeros are in simaler positions.

Well, be sure to keep the kid away from bad influences like teenagers. Or us.

Crabby, when I was your age, I still had 4 changes of college major, numerous service employment situations (including 3 pizza delivery jobs, 5 cafeteria jobs, and 2 cinema jobs), 2 careers (shrink [at 5 different agencies] and sound man), 4 or 5 bands (depending on how you count 'em), another Master's, another career (academic librarian), 5 monogamous long-term relationships, a divorce, a remarriage, 6 cities, and about 15 residences ahead of me. If I'd had a kid at your age, she'd be your age now.

Don't know how I would've handled a kid. I can't believe I've actually kept myself alive this long. Anyway, you're in this atheist's prayers. All happiness to you and your family.
