Whenever I try to logon to #stripcreator (at Undernet), it says "#stripcreator unable to join channel (need correct key)". Umm, help?

I'm getting the same problem.

I just got in fine. Did I break something before I left last night?

I think DragonXero may have done it in his mode setting. He'll probably know the fix.

Well, if wirthling could get in, it probably means that he holds the key, too... last op to leave or something? *shrug*

dar was still in there when I got back from my exam, though.

Probably something Dragon[X] did with his super-funky content-screening commands.

The specific error message I'm getting is:

*** #stripcreator: Cannot join #stripcreator: (+k) Channel key required.

Hopefully someone with a little more IRC experience can decipher what the +k means.

I may have done that. The "+k" thing looks familiar. I may have accidentally checked a box I shouldn't have while I was going through my preferences in Klient. I'll take a look when I get home (a little over an hour from now).

If it was me, I shall flay myself with rusty scissors and take a bath in rubbing alcohol.

OK, I'm in #stripcreator now. When I view the channel properties, "Keyed (+k)" is checked and I can't uncheck it. I have tried to do a "/mode #stripcreator -k" command (that is supposed to remove the password requirement for the channel), but I am getting no message indicating whether it worked or not. (Maybe I lost my ops privileges when I left the channel last night?)

I need someone to try getting in now. If at first you don't succeed, try the "/join #stripcreator *" command. If you still can't get in, post a message here to let me know you tried...

I still can't get in.

Why is the channel still there? Is dar still in it?

Nope. It's just me. I am fairly sure that I have lost my Ops privileges, which is preventing me from removing the password. I don't know why I can still join it, though, and others can't. I'm going to cry.

According to this page, the command is:

MODE -k

ie. mode #stripcreator -k

Maybe you should try typing this and, since no key was set, just insert a space after the -k ?

I'm stuck in a catch-22 here. I don't have Ops status and I can only get Ops status if someone else gives it to me and nobody else can get in here to give it to me. Grrrrr.

Did you try putting a space on the end, or perhaps a space then double quotes ( "") to show that you are acknowledging the key, though it is blank? Maybe it isn't actually blank. You should have a look through your client options and see if maybe there is a default key. I'll try logging on with "default" and "key" I suppose...

Do you have anyone on instant messenger? You're not online on AIM, I've noticed...

How can you not have op status? Undernet is weird...

The channel has now been fixed, thanks to my 1337 skillz.

(Okay, it was just dumb luck.)

All I did was leave the channel and come back, and suddenly Dan was able to get in. Weird. Anyway, the channel now shows as not keyed, so nobody else should have a problem getting in (I hope).

Oh, and after the research I've done, I can't see how I could have accidentally changed the keyed status. I still have no idea what caused this or why I was able to get in without a password. Maybe Klient is possessed.

There are five of us in there right now, so come along and be bewildered.
