..I was gonna post this there, but just in case there's followup:

thanks for the votes in the comic cup, y'all. I felt compelled to point out this:

ObiJo: Both great, but "Agreed. Magic Sucks." is one of the funniest damn lines I've heard in awhile.

Namgubed: Good concept from lara7, but the punchline leaves something to be desired, IMHO.

This, contrasted with my recent dating debacle, assures me that I will never understand men to any degree of practicality.

I'm not quite sure why differing opinions should have anything to do with gender. Two women would also have looked at that comic and gotten different things out of it. Myself, I found that particular comic hilarious. I can see where some people would have felt the punchline was a bit of a let-down, but to me, that was the only logical outcome of the cartoon. (Happy Birthday!)

(And Boinky, do the world a favor and get a huge gob of chunky peanut butter stuck in your throat and choke on it.)

I think a large part of humor is surprise. If I know what the gag is by the end of the second panel, I'm probably not going to find a strip funny. Depending on what comics I've read or written lately, my expectations for a comic can change.

So maybe that's the whole difference between Namgubed's opinion and mine -- he was expecting the outcome and I wasn't, or he was expecting something different and I wasn't.

>>I'm not quite sure why differing opinions should have anything to do with gender

because I wanted to use it as a jumping off point for man-bashing? :-) Seriously, I just thought it was amusing that the same comic got such a wildly different response. It is obviously because men are so inscrutable. A SC world populated by women only would be far more logical, annoying-Newbie-free, and the pinacle of comic expression.

It would also be a place of backstabbing cattiness, and constantly subject to the ravages of the Communist uprising.

It would also be full of naked jello wrestling... in a perfect world, at least.

So, when do we get the lowdown on your date? Until we do, how will I know if I'm really scrutable or not?

Bear in mind that , while i have no idea who she is , im still sharing an island with her. She could be any of the other 69,999 people here.

And that scares me.

Women are anti-men, blacks are anti-white. As a white man, this makes me bitter till I remember

We own EVERYTHING.

Ha. You analyzed my character with great precision many years ago.

She doesn't remember this, folks, but she once said that I have a total of four different moods: hungry, sleepy, affectionate, and "basketball."

You understand men alright.

I have a vague recollection of this, and I guess I meant it as an insult at the time. I was such a cruel young woman...for example, I would later encourage boorite and his then wife to go to library school! What a sadist I am. Oh the humanity!

Judging by how you whine in IM conversations, I think "affectionate" should be replaced with "randy". Or that latter one a constant undercurrent of all moods? ...or am I confusing that with "sexual frustration"?

Well this seems like the right place, thanks to those 10 people that voted for me. Although most of you have commited some kind of suicide now, you've done it for a worthy cause!

It was a euphemism, Mr. Linguist.

Wow, my laziness has caused me to escape the shadowy hand of death yet again, I'd say 'Huzzah!', but that would probbaly warrant a manhunt to assasinate me, and that line is too long as is.
