Basically, anything that isn't pure shite. This is open to interpretation, but some 'new' punk, ALL boy/girl/peoplebands and bubblegum pop, and ANYTHING BY LIMP BIZKIT (save for 'Rearranged' and 'My Way') should fall into the general concensus of the Threshold of Musical Ass.

I whole-heartedly agree. As far as "new" punk goes, if it is heard on a pop music station, it is not punk. I guess I dont agree with you on that one until I know what you mean by 'new' punk. If you mean any punk music made after 1995, I disagree on that one. If you mean things like Blink182 and some of that garbage, then yes, I do agree.

Well, it was pretty hard to get past the first couple pages of your site. I remember getting frustrated right off the bat and giving up because it seemed like you had all these things that should have been links but weren't. In fact, I thought I did go looking in your download section once and there wasn't anything there to download.

In any case, what does our downloading your music have to do with anything? If I'd been running around shouting 'sub_m7's music sucks ass!', then maybe you'd want to say, 'Did you even listen to it?' No, I hadn't listened to it. And why would I?

But...

In an effort to have an open mind I went and downloaded a few pieces.

clone77 : be robot (machine interface)
I'm not sure what to make of this one. I guess I don't get it. But hey, you made it and that's cool. I have a Flash movie of Mr. T. talking on my site. There's not much to get of that, either.

clone77 : the battle that wasnt
I don't know jack shit about electronic music. I only know what I'd listen to. And this is a little too tedious for me. The first two minutes has maybe a four second loop repeated all the way through it with some other stuff laid on top. It starts to change a little bit in the second half, but there still doesn't seem to be much depth to it.

bio4ema : ultraviolett
This one isn't all that bad. Whatever that sound clip is you use... ( This would sharpen you up and... ) I think you repeat it too many times when you use it. When I hear other people slip stuff like that into their music, it's usually only once or twice. You do it like eight times. It's too much for me. But there's a little bit of a more interesting beat going on in this one. It's not quite as boring as the last one.

That's it. I actually would have downloaded a couple more but it looks like I exceeded your download quota for the day.

So there you are. My two cents worth.

Actually, at the risk of taking flak from some people around here, I do like some Limp Bizkit. Specifically, their first album. I'm surprised to learn that DH actually likes "My Way" instead. I think it's one of their worst songs. Not that I kept buying their albums after the second one, mind you.

Well, I have to slightly alter my opinion, I did like 3 doller bill. That one was good because it was before they started giving in to pop culture. "all I wanted was a pepsi just one pepsi, far from suicidal..."

Anyone know what that is a reference too? A "punk" (I call them punk for lack of a better grouping) band called Suicidal Tendencies. They have only a couple good songs.

One is called I Saw Your Mommy. The other I fuckin forget. but the nameless one is the one that that line is a reference to. "All I wanted was a pepsi, just one pepsi AND YOU WOULDN'T GIVE IT TO ME!'

The song is all about the kid whose parents are committing him because he happens to spend a lot of time in his room and never talks to them, when in reality he isnt crazy. "MY best interest? How do YOU know whats in MY best interest?" The song is a riot. Check it out.

Yeah. That's actually the only Suicidal Tendencies song I've heard, so I can't speak to their talent. Actually I remember it being not so much a song as a rant. It's okay though.

If it's heard on a pop music station, it's pop. But that doesn't disclude it from being another genre as well. Top 40 songs could be anything from R&B to contemporary. It's all in what the mainstream taste is currently. Let me be the first to agree that Blink 182 is NOT punk, but there are a few other bands that have made the top 40 charts in recent years that I would consider punk or something similar.

Being mainstream turns it away from the punk scene in most cases. You kind of shot your arguement in the foot with the mainstream remark. See, punk listeners thrive on underground music. Things that arent played on pop stations. We don't listen because it is mainstream and "the cool thing to do". It is just that we like it as it is. It may still be technically classified as "punk-rock" but it is far from the punk scene if it is on a pop music station.

However, I suppose on the flip side, if I REALLY like a band, I am not gonna stop listening to them because they went mainstream unless their style changes. This frequently happens in the jump from punk to mainstream. One perfect example is Jimmy Eat World. Listen to something older by them or even Bleed American off the new album. Then flip a couple tracks to that god awful song on pop stations everywhere "The Middle". Completely different. I lose respect for bands who change their style to match what popular culture wants.

So if one of your 'punk' bands suddenly became adored by the general public and everyone wanted to hear them played on the radio, then what? Assuming there's no changing of styles to conform to populace. Are they no longer punk? Do you no longer listen to them because they're too popular?

Hrm. Understandable.

I, for one, like some stuff that gets airtime or MTV-time. Some: much of today's mainstream music is woefully bland, with rare exceptions. I like to listen to power metal/progmetal/general odd metal bands that some people haven't even heard of yet, mainly because their music's a fresh breath of air. Much mainstream IS semi-sterile and devoid of the band's actual musical style. Sometimes... it's not, and the mass-media's forced to accept that.

... and sometimes, a band just sucks horridly as they get older, like Metallica, S&M notwithstanding. =)

Dude, JEW didn't change their style to be pop by making "The Middle", it just happened to be a great song that wasn't overly punk/emo!

Just becuase the pop stations play it means it's pop. Same with Weezer(though I'm starting to get concerned about them).

Anyway, I like Emo and punk, yeah, but not as much as Grunge/PostGrunge, hard rock and prog stuff like

Tool
Foo Fighters
Radiohead
Oasis
Satriani
Nirvana
Silverchair(but I just started listening to 'em, they sound ok).
Alien Ant Farm
Green Day(well, this falls into the former catagories)

I dunno. It's really a journeyman thing, learning everything about music, eh bunner?

not really punk, but good shit :

system of a down
rage against the machine
such a surge (only the old stuff)
tool
korn
(some stuff off) linkin park

also a selected few songs of slipknot are ok.

i noticed that the above bands are actually crossover - metall with influences from hip hop, punk and other music styles.

but once we are at this point :

what about deicide, cannibal corpse burzum, etc. ???
not that i constantly listen to their stuff, but every now and then i do enjoy it.

I dont wanna post my playlist(s) on account that i have divided my list up by genre. The only things in the same playlist are punk/ska/emo/hardcore.

JEW, whole new cd sucked balls with exception to Bleed American and Praise Chorus. The Middle marks their fall from punk into pop-rock in my opinion.

To answer a question from someone...I dont remember who: If a band I listen to gets play on MTV or the radio I still listen to them, as long as they don't stray from their own style and roots. I am not a die-hard "any band who plays on the radio after being underground are sell-outs" person. A couple of my friends are and i disagree. God forbid a band should make money and stop sleeping on their parents basement floor. Saves the Day has a video or two on MTV and they are still one of my favorite bands. The shitty little pop stations haven't gotten a hold of them yet though and I dont think they ever will. Bottom line, if they dont change their music to fit what mainstream culture has in mind for them, I am happy.

Bad religion
Black Flag
Black Halos
Bouncing Souls
Cake
Goldfinger
Good Charlotte
Looper
Millencolin
MXPX
Operation Ivy
Ramones
Rancid
