I agree, they're awful aren't they?

boinky, if you're going to insult everyone's comics at least show us how it should be done, rather than the shit that you've filled your account with.

Oh and what the fuck does being a "newbie" have to do with anything? So the fact that you've been here for ages but not contributed anything of worth automatically makes you superior to the newcomers, does it?

Psst, 3e, boinky's "insult" is the second post from the top.

It's the response to that "insult" that riled me up in the first place.

No, It just means that when someone who's been around longer is tired of playing with you they'll forget about you until you become logical. Generaly newbies are confused, un-funny and a pain in the rear. There have been exceptions, and then BOY there have been newbies.

I think boinky has some funny comics. But whether or not he has any room to talk, I find that I agree with his assessment of new strippers' talent more often than not.

I think he certainly has a better record than Freako. Sorry, Freako, but none of your strips do anything for me. It's not for lack of trying -- they all have punchlines -- it's just that none of the punchlines make me smile. I don't think I have much constructive criticism to offer. You're doing everything right except for not being funny. Maybe you could take a closer look at the work of other comedians who really make you laugh, and try to figure out how they do it.

There's nothing inherently wrong with being a newbie. It's just that it's always the newbies who take it personally and get pissy when people say they don't like their comics. Boinky does mention this in the post he made yesterday. I guess it's only human nature to be sensitive about your creative works, but it's annoying. Folks don't come to this site to patronize other people, they come here to laugh, so don't be shocked if they're frank when they tell you that your comics aren't working for them. And try not to put too much weight on one person's opinion, either. In time, everyone, without exception, either develops a thicker skin, or leaves. That's why we tend to use "newbies" as a shorthand for "people who can't handle criticism".

Apparently, it's one where a sensible, thoughtful post gets greeted with juvenile, knee-jerk condescension.

Lemme guess--you're another 19-year-old-college-student-who-isn't-as-clever-as-he-thinks-he-is-but-who-smokes-a-lot-of-pot-and-has-deluded-himself-into-believing-otherwiseâ„¢, right?

This is exactly what I'm talking about -- the idea that anyone who doesn't like your comics must come from an "alternate universe". It's arrogant and short-sighted, and it's a great way to become unpopular around here. And as long as you keep it up, you should not be surprised when people call you on it.

Comedy is subjective. Obviously, even among the small number of people who have posted to this thread, there's some disagreement about what is and isn't funny. Nobody told you "your comics aren't funny", because there isn't some Platonic form for humor to which all jokes can be compared. All anyone's said is that they personally don't find your comics funny. Try to get over it.

Had you bothered to read some of my comics before flaming me, you might have discovered that, with some exceptions, most of my work tends to stay away from bathroom humor. In fact, the same can be said for many others who post here. You may rest assured that as soon as I find one of your comics funny, I will laugh at it regardless of the subject matter. And if that never happens, well, so what? You've already made some other people laugh, and isn't that the point?

I liked the Jesus one. Didn't bother to read the rest of the category. I rarely go through and read someone's catalogue when I see them say "read my comics" here. I use this forum to post my multiple-strip comics to make it easier for people to read.
And no, not all of mine are funny, even to me. Some were just out of boredom. Others weren't meant to be funny. Somewhere around 4-5% of my comics were actually meant to be serious. I usually use Gabe on a bench to represent my serious thoughts.

You must understand, unless a comic makes someone fall out of his (or her) chair laughing on here, you're rarely likely to get a positive response. Consider it a litmus test for n00bs. If you can handle a little criticism from the folks here, you fit in well. If not, just avoid the forums and show the comics to people on other forums.

Sometimes I picture newbies (metaphorically) as a rapper hopping up onto stage in front of a horde of metal fans and busting out into some white-boy whining about how he grew up in the slums. I then imagine him getting booed off stage and then yelling into the mic, bitching about how the metalheads don't know shit about music.
God I love irony.
Oh, yeah, after he gets off stage, the metalheads show him why they wear spikes.
In case you're too obtuse (or too much of a wiseass), they use them to perforate skulls.

Shut up.

I wouldn't know.
Last I checked, popular culture didn't make movies involving metal.
Though, I doubt Eminem ended up with a spiked gauntle lodged up his ass in that movie.
Is that movie about his life or something?
I'd watch it if it didn't contain a soundtrack full of rap. But then, I guess that would change the content of the movie eh?

That's kind of funny, actually. Makes me wanna pit UnknownEric and 3e in a fight-- Googlefight:
