Now, The rules are the same as before, for details see This Thread.

... ok, fine.

    Rules for entering:
  • You must sign up within 48 hours.
  • You must not have posted a comic before May 21st.
  • You must inform me via email of your true identity, so that i can post a list of true identites before the contest begins.
  • There are no other pertinent rules for signing up.

    Rules for competing:
  • You will be matched up in a best of one challenge with your opponent. Also, it's double-elimination, so if you lose you're not out yet.
  • I will judge. Make me laugh.
  • If your identity is discovered and posted by a competitor to the cup thread, you are automatically fully eliminated. Competitors are allowed one wrong guess, after that their guesses don't count, so DON'T POST THEM.
  • The last person not fully eliminated wins.

Simple enough, eh? Well, sign up for your new email adresses, get your new accounts and get on in here! And dont' forget to email me with your true identity.

I shall enter this contest.

Are you really going to "post a list of true identites before the contest begins?" Doesn't that miss the point of hiding our identities?

Forgive me if this seems like a retarded question...but couldn't they just PM you their real names...I mean, now that Private Messaging is available and all.

I would love to be in on this...but I am leaving tomorrow for vacation for a week. Damn.

Well, naturally they COULD just pm me their "real" names, but I am going to be selling their email adresses to every spam list from here to indonesia... making me approximately five dollars, and their lives a living hell. Kudos to those who sent me their true identities via fake email adresses too!

... on a side note, please don't pm me your true identities.

Okay, I have issues with several of the rules:

I will judge. Make me laugh.

You're the only judge? No voting?

If your identity is discovered and posted by a competitor to the cup thread, you are automatically fully eliminated. Competitors are allowed one wrong guess, after that their guesses don't count, so DON'T POST THEM.

This is harsh. I'm not sure if you're handling the whole fake identity thing well. If you read the last competition you'll see that some of the identities got spotted pretty much straight away. I mean, Wirthling won, and we all knew it was him for pretty much the whole contest. And some of the other guys still haven't been revealed.

Also, even Dr K didn't know who everyone was last time, and he was the host, while you are asking for the entrants to reveal themselves to you. But you have also decided that you'll be the sole judge of the contest. Since the point of this was to remove any prejudices from the voting procedure, the judge(s) knowing everyone's true identity defeats the whole purpose of the thing.

As to prejudice: Yes, I know i'm a fascist twat.

The purpose of mysterious identities is no longer a fear of partiality. Impartiality is a myth; as you say, people knew who wirthling was through the whole competition, and he won! What if it had been some newbie whose identity was discovered? You can hardly expect the results would have been the same, all else being equal. In fact, I would say the contest promoted the revealing of identities more than anything; to be a reg is a bonus and not a detriment.

Realizing this, but still wanting to revive the cup, I turned mysterious identities into an element of gameplay: I expect at least a few people to be eliminated via their identities being discovered. This threat is the twist of the competition (and the purpose of the mystery): you have to make comics that are both funny and very different from your normal style, because you can lose either by losing a battle or through your identity being discovered.

Now, this is all well and good, but in order to determine whether an identity has been revealed or not, there needs to be some executive body to know all the secret identities and keep track of who has guessed whom. Of course, i could have statistically eliminated some error by choosing a judge or panel of judges to judge the comics and have my sole purpose be to act as keeper of the secret identities, but in the single-judge scenario we really have no guarantee that they will be less partial than myself - and the panel scenario it would dramatically increase the time between fights because as history has repeatedly shown there's always the slow judge that takes a week to cast his vote.

Just like in any country, a dictator may make life hell if he's bad, but nothing's more efficient if he's good. Now be a good boy and enter the contest.

We now have 12 contestants with 3 hours to go! An even 16 would be a riot: think of all the beautiful children we could make!

If not, Bob Barker, Sancho, glazeyadeaddonut, and diedougdie (selected at random) will get a free ride to round 2. Now, nobody wants THAT, do they?

I have the same issues with this contest as Kramer does, it defeats the whole purpose of the mystery contest, this just seems a complete waste of time, why are we disguising ourselves if the only person that matters knows who we are anyway?

I think the rules need to be rethunk.

In response, I give my same answer: because there really was no elimination of prejudice in the other contest, and the fear of discovery will motivate strippers to make comics that are unlike their regular comics, but still reuiqres them to be funny. Heavens sakes, this is not that hard people!

just please, PLEASE read my reasoning behind setting things up this way before abandoning the contest. I have done my best to be reasonable, and I have adressed Kajun's and kaufman's issues quite thoroughly. Just move back a page and scroll down a bit. There you go.

This is just a contest, a normal everyday contest, only you haven't won anything to get the honour. Read every comic cup that's happened before, it all comes down to a majority vote, the whole point of the MYSTERY cup is that no-one knows who anyone else is.

For example, if it were Devin Vs Fuzzyman, there are some people who would be biased towards letting Fuzzyman win, I'm not saying they'd do it deliberately, but if they had no idea who they were voting for, it'd be purely based on the comic.

The fact that the only person who knows who we all are is ALSO the ONLY judge in this contest makes it even worse, right away by picking these huge holes in your idea I've set myself up to be booted off by your own personal politics.

As for this insane rule whereby discovery of your true identity will result in getting eliminated, with SC's user tracker thing on the main forum page it'll make it easier to figure out who is who, also, how strong are your morals? How do we know that you wont let slip some information to other users?

Who the fuck are you anyway?

As I recall, I didn't win anything to earn the right to do MC1 either. All I did was put forth the idea and have it thrust upon me. This being a special event, rather than a numbered contest, I might be happy to take part in it if it's run well ...

With that...I will see you all in a week. Assuming I don't have access to a computer in Florida.
