There will be donors on here but I don't know *exactly* who is and who isn't so even though I know Kajun and chicka are donors, you could have knocked me sideways to tell me boorite's not. So here's the list in full to make sure:

No-one has mentioned Devin, and I think if we're going to let in people like Ewwwww and Punkyrockassboy (by donor default) then he should at least get a shout.

Ewwwww and (for the lack of a better example) boinky33 have good comics but both let themselves down in their behaviour, Ewwwww more so, but we can put that down to the fact he hasn't been beaten and moulded into a respectable regular, but really, who here can even be bothered anymore? boinky more than proved himself in the RMDC forum recently, but still, this reshuffle is about preserving the community and not having a million endless pages of garbage, I really don't see what listing the names of EVERYONE here is going to do to change, let alone IMPROVE the forums in any way shape or form.

Once again, I find myself being the one who says what everyone else is probably thinking and I'll happily take the 5 page FGH thread about me if it means this place'll improve a couple of percent.

I just care that damn much.

That's a good question.

What about users who've never posted to the forums and haven't made a comic in months? I've always hoped agnt_M would start posting. Will there be some mechanism for newbies to apply for membership? Or will they just post in the Hi forum and PM-flood members with requests for support?

andydougan June 26, 2003 7:21 PM	Most of the gratuitously disruptive people have donated, so I don't see this making a discernible difference as far as cutting down on crap posts goes. Also, I'm not sure what's supposed to be wrong with boinky33's "behaviour". The recent stupid FGH threads have mostly been initiated by donors. Thanks for the love, by the way, Kajun, Chi and jes.

The way I'm currently thinking about doing the invite thing (and about 80% done) is making a private invitation script and giving it out to various reasonably trusted users.

You spot somebody on the site that you think should have forum access, you load this page, enter the name in, it grants them access and private messages them telling them they've been given access to the forums and that they're invited to participate.

The people with that power can deal with it however they want. If they want to try taking votes, that's cool. As long as everyone knows that access to the forums can and will be revoked if people are disruptive.

Donating just helps users get in the door, it doesn't keep them here. We'll see if this improves things at all and then go from there. At the very worst, I'll just turn it all off and things can go back to the way they were.

Sounds worth a try. I would like it if there were some thread or forum where the people with that power could solicit others' opinions, including the opinions of the people without that power.

Random point: the IRC channel is still open access. A good way for newbies to get to know the community.
