Something about your ridiculous idea of a plot is hafhazard. I have drawn up a much better conclusion to our dilemma

If we take into account progression A, the search of Gabe, we have no desire, as nothing he has comes into play, and an immediate end is apparent and wise to come forth, ending this comic abruptly

But if we stick to progression B, and cut to him holding something increasingly important, cut to a large monologish interlude that really brings the plot into effect, we can outlast the rest
