Stanley Yelnats III is accused of stealing shoes when they fall out of the sky while he is walking under a bridge. His story is unbelievable so he get's sentenced to Camp Green Lake.

Hector (Zero), Stanley's new friend, gets picked on by everyone in the camp including the counselors. One day a counselor was taunting him so Zero hits him on the head with a shovel and runs away.

Stanley goes looking for Zero and finds him They return back to camp and find his great-grandfather's treasure and are free to leave because his lawyer says they found him innocent now.
